Mangaluru, Jan 31: The Theatre Bugs, a part of the Hakuna Matata Kids Club, presented their second production 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' at Canara High School Dongekeri on January 27.
The play was adapted and directed by Rajni Patrao, also led by Anjana Kamath, Gloria Veigas and Neha Khare from Hakuna Matata Club. The cast of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' witnessed a performance from 47 kids. The kids were specially trained by a team of experts over six months.
This play is based on a British novel by Roald Dahl. Willy Wonka, one of the main characters holds a contest during which the winners get a tour of his famous chocolate factory.
Each of the characters of the play were portrayed by the kids with poise and grace. The 'Oompaloompas', played by tiny tots enthralled the audience with their funny dances and dialogues. The props and production team were led by Vinaya D'Souza along with team members Vanditha, Shreeja Shetty, Nicola, Raveena, Vidya, Vinayak, Sandeep and Elwin. Costumes were handled by Sharon Pinto. The students were specially trained by Joe Rasquinha and Asha D'Souza.
MLA J R Lobo witnessed the play. He encouraged the team and children to continue to work and present the city of Mangaluru with such events. Ajeet Khare, proprietor, Canara Lighting, congratulated the team and handed out the trophies. A beautifully designed golden chocolate hamper was up for a lucky draw. Ramona Mathais picked a lot from the draw and declared Anirudh Bhat as the winner.
The audience review after the play encouraged the team to continue with such activities for children.
Hakuna Matata Club, located in Bejai is a platform for children wherein they learn and imbibe a variety of talents. This club was started in 2015 as a space for children to explore the world around them, discover themselves and have loads of fun. Since its inception it has established itself as a platform for conducting events for kids in a safe and caring environment.
It is the brain child of Anjana Kamath, who realized Mangaluru needed a space for children to simply unwind and have fun. In a short span Hakuna Matata has gained great popularity by offering an array of activities like storytelling, singing, theme-based events, role play, art and craft and outdoor events. All the events are conducted with the help of a capable team.
These activities are conducted for children between the ages of 3 to 12 years. The activities aim at enhancing cognitive, social and creative skills.
Theatre Bugs was started in 2017 and successfully put up their first production of an American classic story 'The Wizard of OZ', which was well received by the audience. The Theatre Bugs team trains and supports children to overcome stage fear. The team encourages each of the child with individual training in art forms such as singing and dancing and also speech training in an environment unlike any other.
