Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 31: Assistant commissioner here, Renuka Prasad, advised the police department to make use of the expression, 'sexual atrocity' in place of 'rape' in its reports. He was speaking at the revenue subdivision level awareness and monitoring committee meeting held at his office on Tuesday January  30.

Speaking about atrocities on women, the official felt that the use of the word, 'rape' mentally depresses the victim. Therefore, he argued that the department should desist from using of the word, 'rape'  and replace it with 'sexual atrocity'. He also instructed the police to provide weekly revised reports to social welfare department, duly mentioning in clear terms about the current status of investigations.

Moodbidri tahsildar, Muhammed Issac, social welfare department assistant director, Sunita and others were present.
