Panaji, Jul 31: British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling's mother Fiona Mackeown is set to depose before the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), relating to the recovery of her daughter's body at the Anjuna beach under suspicious circumstances some months back, her counsel has said.
Fiona's legal counsel Vikram Varma said that Fiona would be arriving here next week, as the CBI had asked for her presence in connection with the investigations into the death of her daughter. Keeling's bruised body had been found lying in shallow waters at Anjuna beach on February 18 this year. The policemen, who had registered a case of homicide, had arrested two local youth. Fiona, not satisfied with the police investigations, had demanded for a CBI inquiry. Even though the state government was not inclined to meet her demand at first, it relented later, in view of the repercussions the incident would have had on the tourism industry of the state.
The CBI could not proceed much further without Fiona's presence. It said that it had interrogated Michael Mannion, a British citizen who had seen Scarlett with one of the accused some time before her dead body was found, on Tuesday. He was held back in the country after the Goa police issued a look out circular.
