Hassan: Distraught pedestrian causes death of couple days away from wedding

Hassan, Jan 25: Two youngsters, who were to marry each other on February 4, and who wanted to shoot some photos together amid Malnad's beauteous nature spots, lost their lives in a tragic accident. Three persons including the couple died in the accident, while a lady who suffered serious injuries was hospitalized. Some more in the car survived with minor nicks and cuts.

The accident occurred at Palya village in Alur taluk of the district on national highway 75. The accident happened when a mentally challenged lady crossed the path of a car in which these persons were seated, on Wednesday January 24. As a result of the accident, the traffic on highway remained suspended for some time.

Radhika (21) from Bagur in Gubbi taluk and Supreeth (27) from Turuvekere in Tiptur taluk were moving in a car towards Sakleshpur along with Radhika's mother, Shahikala and others, when Ratnamma from Arehallada Koplu village, a mentally deranged person, suddenly came across the car. The driver, in an attempt to avoid the accident, turned the car, which hit a roadside tree. As the car turned turtle in the accident, Radhika and Ratnamma died on the spot. Supreeth breathed his last sometime later.

Engagement ceremony of Radhika and Supreeth had been held and the couple were on a visit to some beautiful places for taking some photos/video clips to be shown during the wedding. The couple was accompanied by Supreeth's brotherm Ajay Kumar, photographer, Maruti, and Shilpa, who was a makeup artist. The couple had shot some scenes near Shettihalli church in the backwatrs of Hemavathi river near Ganjigere on Wednesday morning and were proceeding to Manjirabad fort near Sakeshpur for next shootout. The others in the car escaped with minor injuries.
