Sullia, Jan 24: A woman was collecting firewood inside the forest area adjacent to agricultural land, when a tree fell on her and killed her instantly. The incident happened at Balugodu near Subrahmanya in the taluk on Tuesday January 23.
The victim has been identified as Totadamoole Ratnavati (45), wife of Laxman from Balugodu.
Ratnavati had entered the forest area adjacent to her farm to collect dry firewood when this tragic incident happened. Her husband was in a shop being run by him at Balugodu downtown when the incident happened. The couple's children were away at school and other works.
After the children returned home in the evening, they found that their mother was not at home. They conveyed this information to their father and neighbours. People from the area went searching for the lady and found her lifeless body lying in the forest area nearby. It is suspected that her death was caused by the tree which fell on her.
In all likelihood, Ratnavati would have died in the afternoon and people came to know about it in the evening. The lady is survived by wife, a son, and three daughters.
