Panaji, Jul 28: Goa's main opposition political party has feared that banned SIMI outfit has shifted its activities in the State and state government is not doing enough to curtail them due to political compulsions.

"The recent idol desecration incidents are SIMI's handiwork. They attempt to flare up communal tension through such incidents," leader of opposition and BJP leader Manohar Parrikar told reporters here on Monday July 28.

Parrikar said that the SIMI had executed similar modus operandi in Maharashtra to create communal tension, which can be used to execute their terror agenda.

The State has witnessed spate of idol desecration incidents recently. "I can recall at least twenty such incidents in recent past. These are attempts to flare up communal tension in the state," the leader of opposition said.

Blaming the chief minister Digamber Kamat of being dormant on the entire issue, Parrikar said that the recent seizure of swords from CM's constituency is a worrisome incident.

"The police investigation in the seizure is heading nowhere as some of those related to CM's supporters are involved in the matter," Parrikar, who is a former State CM, alleged.

The BJP leader pointed out that SIMI activists arrested in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have confessed that they were trying to build a strong base in Goa. "The State police should have interrogated these activists to unearth Goa link. But nothing has happened. Police are sitting dormant," he said.
