Bengaluru, Jan 22: Engineers of public works department (PWD) of the state, who have held the additional chief secretary in the department and the chief secretary of the government responsible for clearly violating directives issued over recomputing of seniority list of employees, have decided to file a separate contempt of court petition in the supreme Court (SC).

A similar petition filed on the subject is being taken up by the SC on January 29. The employees plan to bring to the notice of the court the hesitation of the department in revising the seniority list of employees.

About 7,400 engineers work in PWD and other departments. As per the SC directive, their seniority list had to be drawn with affect from 1978 till 2017. As against this, the seniority list brought out by the department on November 29, 2017, had given weightage and seniority till 2004. Under pressure, the department issued another order on January 10, as per which a fresh list giving weightage till 2009 was published.

The employees feel that additional chief secretary in the department, Laxminarayana and other officials have been purposefully coming out with the erroneous new list with retrospective affect. They alleged that the officials, in addition to violating SC order, have also been meting out injustice to engineers belonging to other backward castes and general cayeogry.
