Mangaluru, Jan 16: APD Foundation along with Antony Waste Handling Cell (AWHCPL) & Shree Gujarathi English High School, Alake, decided to celebrate Makara Sankranthi in an eco friendly way on January 13 by going to houses near our locality and giving them a message about protecting the environment.
The programme began with a prayer followed by welcome speech by Sowmya Shettigar. Headmistress Ashwini Shenoy highlighted the significance of celebration.
Later students depicted the theme in the form of dance drama. Also the students of the school presented the Makara Sankranthi celebration in different states in the form of dance, which choreographed by Neha Shenoy, GM-Operations – APD.
Kalpesh Khokanni, member of the education committee was the president of the programme. Chief guest Prathibha Kulai, chairman of finance committee MCC awakened students about environmental awareness. Rajendra Kumar, the corporator of Dongerkeri ward, Nagveni, Health Committee chairman, MCC, Jayaprakash, scientific officer KSPB and Santhosh G Nair, AWHCPL and Naveen D’Souza IEC project head addressed the gathering. Prakash Kurup and Asha, president of PTA and Mohammed Asif, Asif Alam and Dhanush Desai of APD Foundation were present on the occasion. Ruhia Hussein rendered the vote of thanks.
Later student went on a walk-a-thon for distributing ‘Thil Ladu’ spreading environmental awareness. The students spread messages like ‘Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ (Mother Earth is requesting people to stop polluting); ‘Baduki Badukalu Bidi’ (Birds and Animal Kingdom are requesting people) and ‘Live and Let Live’ (Human beings are requesting each other). Pollutants which harm environment, such as making bonfires and glass coated thread to fly kites were not used during the celebration.
