AAP Minister asks BJP Mayors to help save traders from sealing drive

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): Delhi's Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday urged Mayors of the three city municipal corporations to save traders from an ongoing sealing drive by making a 'detailed submission' within 10 days on shifting 351 roads under commercial and mixed-use category.

The Delhi government will then submit this report to Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court which will take a call on notifying the roads.

If the roads are to be notified as commercial or mixed-use category, the traders on these roads can continue with their businesses.

Jain said the issue of changing the status of these 351 roads has been pending for 11 years due to laxity of the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled municipal corporations.

The Minister said that the report to be submitted by the corporations will contain details of whether they have done survey of these roads in compliance with the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 and if conditions are met for these roads to be notified as commercial or mixed-use category.

On Thursday, in separate letters to the three Mayors, Jain said the Urban Development Department officials had met Commissioners of the three MCs in this regard and sent five letters, but there was no reply.
