Mangaluru, Jan 11: The five-day mega event ‘Sahyadri Conclave’ culminated here at Sahyadri Campus on Wednesday, January 10. The science technology and management ‘Sahyadri Conclave’ included interactive sessions with nobel laureates, renowned scientists and industrialists.
The conclave included a technical exhibition, science project exhibition, air shows, drones, mathematics exhibition and Vedic science on river bank. The event was held in association with the government of Karnataka, VTU, Mangaluru University, Ramaiah Institute of technology, Bengaluru and other government bodies. The conclave was aimed to popularize science and technology among the masses and create awareness for a sustainable inclusive development of the nation.
In a concluding address, principal secretary IT, BT and Tourism Gaurav Gupta said, “It was a great occasion for the young students to interact with the nobel laureate, scientist and industrialists from around the world which will definitely motivate them. Under the flagship of state government, we are introducing a programme where 400 government college students will be selected based upon their merit to get exposure with more on science and technology. They will visit Indian Institute of Science and Jawaharlal Nehru centre to have an interaction which will help them to motivate towards science and technology.”
“Karnataka is the only state to allot Rs 4.5 crore as research grant which will encourage the researchers. We will also have a tie up with institutions from Austria, Finland, Israel, and Germany to work together for the projects. Institutions like Sahyadri and NITK should teach how to find solutions to present day challenges. Finding a job is not only the solution but instead of seeking job you must create jobs,” he added.
Nobel laureate Ada E Yonath said, “I was pleasantly surprised by the way organizers have organized this whole ‘Sahyadri Conclave’ and also enthusiasm of the students while taking part in the sessions. Students should make use of the sessions held and I wish all the very best to students for their bright future ahead.”
Nobel laureate Serge Haroche said, “It was a wonderful experience to interact with the students. The program was very rich in content and the enthusiasm among students was really great. Students went deep to ask questions during the sessions which show their hunger for knowledge.”
Award winner in computer science, Joseph Sifakis said, “It’s been a pleasure to visit India and to be part of this Sahyadri conclave. This will be motivation and encouragement towards learning science and technology and students are having high level of curiosity which is more important for their future projects.”
Sharing her experience, a student from Cambridge School Nithya Priya said, “I came to Sahyadri during the first day of the event and I liked it so much that I went to attend all four days and I feel it fulfilled the purpose of the conclave. I learnt modesty, simplicity and punctuality from the nobel laureates and this was a lifetime experience for me.”
Director NITK Surathkal Prof Karanam Uma Maheshwar Rao said, “The conclave was a platform which brought Nobel laureates around the world together to interact with the students. The theme science, technology and management are meant for the students of this generation and they should be inspired by this program to lead their path forward and take responsibility for tomorrow. I urge students not to disconnect with the society and the world you are living in as the responsibility is bestowed on you.”
Vice Chancellor, Mangaluru University Prof K Byrappa, Chairman Bhandary Foundation Manjunath Bhandary, Principal Prof U M Bhushi and others were present.
