Moodbidri, Jan 10: In a tragic incident, a PU student ended his life inside his hostel room here on the night of Monday January 8. The identity of the victim has been given as Tejas (16), son of Nagaraj from Bengaluru. This information was disclosed through the first wife of the deceased's father.

In letter left behind, the student said that his father was looking after him well but he wanted to go with his mother. His mother had passed away recently.

Tejas was a first PU student of Alva's PU College here. On Monday, he had celebrated his birthday in the company of his parents who had come down here from Bengaluru for the purpose. He had visited different temples with them before returning to the hostel in the evening. After the visit, his parents had left for Bengaluru.

At around 7 pm, the student was alone in the hostel room, while his roommates went to have dinner. When the students came back after dinner, they found that the room was locked from inside and Tejas was not responding to their repeated knocks at the door. When they peeped through the ventilator, the students found that Tejas had ended his life by tying a nylon rope to the ceiling fan.

Parents of Tejas, who had reached Hassan when they came to know about the incident, returned. The personnel of the police station here have registered a case, charging the hostel warden of dereliction of duty. Further investigation has been undertaken.
