Udupi, Jan 9: District-level 'Makkala Sahitya Sammelana' (children’s literary meet) will be held at SRSM National First Grade College Barkur at Palakala Sitharama Bhat Sahitya Vedike on Thursday, January 11.
The annual Makkala Sahithya Sammelana is being jointly organized by Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra, www.barkuronline.com and Shanthivana Trust, Dharmasthala and Ramakrishna Ashrama Belguam and Mangaluru. This is been organized to mark the 155th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

Srunjana, SSLC, student from Government High School, Heskatturu, Kundapur Taluk has been chosen to preside over the sammelan.
The dignitaries of the occasion, national award winner, film director Kasargod Chinna will be inaugurating the sammelan on Thursday while Katyayini Kunjibettu, an eminent writer and lecturer, MGM College, Udupi, B Sitarama Tholpadittaya, secretary, Shantivana Trust, Dr I Shashikanth Jain, director for yoga, yoga and moral education project, and K Vasantraj Shetty, principal, SRSM National College, Barkur will be present.
Srinivas Shettigar, owner of Shettigar Industries, Ranganakeri, Barkur and Kishore Gonsalvese, manager of www.barkuronline.com will be present.
State level best teacher award winner B T Nayka, deputy principal of Government Pre-university College (High School) Brahmavar and state level national service scheme coordinator award winner Savitha Yermal, an English teacher, Government Pre-university College, Brahmavar will be felicitated on the occasion for their incredible service in imparting education.
Sathlinga, an eight standard, BMM High School Kurady, national throw ball player and Ranjith Kumar, a gold medal winner in national level Karate championship will be felicitated at the sammelan.
Followed by the stage function, cultural programme on various sessions like poet recitation for children will be held. Prateeksha, ninth standard, Girls’ Viveka High School Kota will preside over the session. Rajesh Shanubhag and team will conduct ‘Viveka Gana-Gayana’.
A session on ‘Swami Vivekananda in Kannada Land’ delivered by Sri Krishna Upadhyaya and Geetha-Sahitya-Vaividhya by teacher Vittal Nayak will be held.
National award winner Kudi Vasanth Shetty, head master, and Bhujanga Shetty, taluk physical officer, Brahmavar zone will deliver the valedictory address on Thursday.
The fest started in the year 1998 with the initiation of Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra at Barkur under the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna Ashram in commemorating the centenary of Ramakrishna Mission. Since then, the centre has relentlessly worked towards the goals of developing hidden talents in children and guiding them in total personality development by conducting various programmes for the last 18 years.
