Chikkamagaluru, Jan 8: Dhanya (20), a degree college student living in Chatramaidana extension in Mudigere town committed suicide by hanging herself on Saturday January 6 afternoon. There are allegations that her suicide was abetted by a youth who is an activist of a Hindu outfit and his attempt at insulting her.
The girl reportedly is a first year B Com student of D S Biligowda government first grade college, Mudigere. A youth belonging to a Hindu outfit, reportedly took her to task through WhatsApp post, questioning her about developing friendship with a youth of different community. WhatsApp screen shots stated to contain conversation between the two have become viral on social sites. But it is to be verified whether these shots are genuine or not.
The girl student in the chat, had justified her action, saying that the boy concerned is good-natured. The language used for the chat was Tulu. Reportedly the youth threatened to convey information about her friendship to her father and Bajrang Dal. He also shared this chat in some other WhatsApp groups and thereby conveyed information to BJP and some Sangh Parivar activists, it is said. It is gathered that the photos of the girl and her friend were shared in WhatsApp group.
Thereafter some Hindu activists had met her parents,Yadav and Saraswati, at their home on January 5,besides warning the girl.
The girl, growing jittery, is said to have committed suicide by hanging herself on January 6 duly leaving behind a death note. But this death note remains untraced. The police are investigating the case.
Meanwhile an anonymous person has written a letter to Chikkamagaluru superintendent of police, Annamalai, saying some people are trying to close the matter. But Annamalai has said that already some persons have been already taken into police custody for interrogation and action will be taken as per law without any discrimination
