Bhatkal, Jan 8: "Because of modern technology, the entire world has turned into a small village. Quality has assumed importance. Therefore, today's children should prepare themselves to compete in the global market," advised state large and medium industries minister, R V Deshpande.
He was speaking after inaugurating a programme for distribution of free laptops to first year students of colleges belonging to scheduled castes and tribes for 2016-17. The programme was held at Kamalavathi Ramnath Shanbhag hall in the town on Saturday evening.
"Our government has given impetus to social justice in addition to education and health improvement. Students, in addition to acquiring book knowledge, should try to acquire common sense. The central government has failed in creating new employment, whereas the state has crossed the target of creating 15 lac employment. Students and their parents should desist from getting involved in communal disturbances," he advised.
The programme was presided over by MLA, Mankalu Vadiya, who said that he has been ensuring that Bhatkal and Honnavar constituencies do not lag behind in education.
Zilla panchayat president, Jayashree Mogera, taluk panchayat president, Eshwar Naik, vice president, Radha Ashok Vaidya, Jali town panchayat president, Abdurrahim, district joint director of SC/ST welfare department, Velumani, assistant commissioner, Manjunath,, tahsildar, V N Badkar and others were present.
On behalf of taluk committee of Karnataka State Anganwadi Employees Association, a petition was presented to minister Deshpande on Saturday, demanding that higher officials in the department should not bring pressure on Anganwadi employees for implementation of Matru Poorna scheme. The minister said he will not allow unnecessary pressure to be brought on them and that the government will take a suitable decision. He also spoke over phone to the deputy director of women and child welfare department and asked her to consider this demand.
