Beltangady, Jan 7: "Killing of innocents and creating violence in the name of God and religion cannot be tolerated," said chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah.
He was speaking at Beltangady taluk stadium, after inaugurating foundation stone laying ceremony of various projects worth Rs 76 crore in Beltangady.
"We have to put an end to the communal politics that is being played over the bodies of the dead with the sole aim of grabbing power. There is no point in singing the 'Nada Geete' of Kuvempu if one does not follow the essence of the song."
He also said that he will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands and will take stringent measures in this direction.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the mini Vidhan Soudha and dedicating development works worth Rs 53 crore to the society on Sunday, Siddaramaiah noted that Dakshina Kannada (DK) district is known to be inhabited by intelligent, knowledgeable people. Noting that education should not lead one on the path of selfishness and inhuman behaviour, he wished that this district does not become the laboratory for communal politics. He blamed the opposition of having a hand behind such deplorable incidents with an eye on reaping benefits thereof in the election.
Siddaramaiah said that a state cannot develop if there is disturbance in the society, and felt that every religion has to condemn organized crime and goondaism. He said that his party and partymen believe in taking everyone along. Referring to the slogan, 'Sab Ka Sath Sab Ka Vikas', he accused those shouting this slogan of igniting friction between religions. Accusing BJP of having no agenda for the progress of minorities, he charged it of resorting to communal politics out of fear of losing all eight constituencies in the district to Congress in the assembly election.
He announced that Indira canteens will be opened in all assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada district by next month. He recalled that when Yeddyurappa joined KJP, he had taken a oath in the name of Allah never to return to BJP and that he had hailed Tipu Sultan as a valiant patriot. "While Yeddyurappa now brands Tipu as religious bigot, Jagadish Shettar, who wrote preface for the book written by Sheikh Ali about Tippu praising the Sultan, now finds fault with Tipu. I do not have anything to learn from Yogi Adityanath who hails from Jungle Raj, Uttar Pradesh," he stated.
The CM called upon people to ensure victory of K Vasant Bangera, who will be fielded again from this constituency, as he is honest, selfless, and sincere politician.
MLA,K Vasant Banera, who presided over the meeting, put before the CM several demands like distribution of DC Manna land, sanction of additional multi-village drinking water projects and additional vented dams in the taluk.
