Mangaluru, Jan 7: Karnataka chief minister (CM), Siddaramaiah, who will be completing his five-year-term shortly, will be staying for the first time in the city and Udupi on January 7 and 8 respectively. He will stay at Circuit House here on Sunday, and Inspection Bungalow, Udupi, the next day.
The CM had visited both these places several times during his term, but had he had never stayed for the night so far. Therefore, his visit this times gains significiance. Some political pundits assume that his overnight stay in these two coastal districts is part of a carefully planned strategy, duly calculating the benefits his party would be able to reap in the assembly election that is months away.
Today, Siddaramaiah will be taking part in various programmes elsewhere in Dakshina Kannada district before reaching the city in the evening. On his arrival here, he will inaugurate the toy train and musical fountain at Kadri Park. He will stay for the night at the new building of Circuit House, which is being spruced up for his stay.
The chief minister will be leaving for Udupi on Monday morning and take part in the 'Sadhana Samavesha' of the government being held at various places in Udupi district including the one opposite the high school at Byndoor at 10.45 am. He will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate projects undertaken at a cost of Rs 490.97 crore. Later, he will arrive at Brahmavar, and lay foundation stone for works worth Rs 509 crore in Udupi assembly constituency at 2 pm. On this occasion, he will inaugurate works worth Rs 72 crore. He is scheduled to lay foundation stone and inaugurate various works worth Rs 445 crore in Kaup constituency at 4 pm.
Sources said that the CM will be served with Appemidi pickle, curry made of Coccinia and tender cashew nut, Neerodose, Chapathi, Ghasi made from country chicken, Mutton Koorma, fish Ghasi, country chicken Sukka, okra Pulimunchi, Pomfret Rawa fry, Kane fish Rawa fry, chicken Biryani, salad, Basmati rice, cooked rice from unpolished rice, Saaru. Tove, curd, ice cream, fruits, lemon tea etc.
