Mangaluru, Jan 3: Close on the heels of the murder at Katipalla on Wednesday January 3, two more incidents of attacks were reported, one each at Kottara Chowki and Suratkal limits.
In the incident at Suratkal, a group of miscreants attacked a youth identified as Mubashir (22) when he was riding from Katipalla towards Mangaluru.
Mubashir, son of Aburrazak, a resident of Bunder, was in Katipalla to attend the wedding of his cousin. The attack took place while he was returning home from the wedding. It is learnt that he was attacked with machetes.
Mubashir has been admitted to a hospital with head injuries.
At Kottara Chowki
Suratkal
In another incident reported later in the night, 47-year-old Basheer was attacked by a group at Kottara Chowki in the city.
Basheer's condition is said to be serious.
Basheer was about to return home after shutting down his shop when the group attacked him, sources said.
It is learnt that two ambulance drivers, identified as Rohit and Shekar, happened to see Basheer fallen on the road at Kottara Chowki. On examining, they found that Basheer had been seriously assaulted. They immediately informed the police and then admitted Basheer to hospital. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU, it is learnt.
Earlier in the day, a person identified as Deepak alias Deepu was hacked to death in broad daylight in Katipalla.
However, it is not yet ascertained if they three attacks were related.
Suratkal tense
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Suratkal following the murder of Deepak at Katipalla. Incidents of stone-pelting at buses were reported.
In view of the situation in Mangaluru and around, the police department has invoked Section 35 of the Karnataka Police Act, according to which all rallies and public meets in the police limits will be prohibited on Thursday January 4.
