Beltangady, Jan 3: Personnel belonging to the police station here have arrested Geetha Shenoy from Kanyadi in the taluk, who currently lives in a first floor house in BSP Compound near Kankanady Garody, Mangaluru, on Tuesday January 2. The police were armed with arrest warrant relating to a case in which the cheque issued by Geetha towards repayment of loan raised by her from Sri Gurudev Multipurpose Cooperative Society's Kalladka branch was returned unpaid for want of funds.
It is learnt that Geetha had raised a loan of one lac rupees from the above society's Kalladka branch. She had failed to repay the loan, and the cheque issued by her towards repayment of loan was dishonoured upon presentation by the bank. Thereupon, the society filed a cheque bounce case in the court here. As Geetha Shenoy remained absent from successive hearings in connection with the case, the court had issued arrest warrant against her. Based on this warrant, the police went to her home at Kankanady to arrest her.
It is said that during the execution of the arrest warrant, both Geetha and her husband, Vittaldas Shenoy, attacked the police. A case about this incident was filed in Kankanady police station. The accused has now been remanded to judicial custody.
