Mangaluru, Jan 1: "Political activists and leaders function among the general public. They need to be taught about discipline and self-restraint," felt state food and civil supplies minister, U T Khader.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of National Rovers and Rangers Moot of Bharat Scouts and Guides organized at St Aloysius institutions premises on Sunday December 31.
Khader lamented the fact that educated people have been actively indulging in corruption, terrorism, and other forms of crime. "I therefore am of the opinion that discipline and life values should be included in educational curriculum. Rovers and Rangers should in the coming days, initiate scouts and guides movement in every village. There is no doubt that people who work in this organization emerge as excellent citizens of the country," he stated.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, speaking on the occasion, said that even small things acquire importance in one's life. He said that when working as software engineer, his work did not provide him psychological satisfaction. He revealed that his training in scouts and guides inspired him to choose the current profession.
The programme was organized on the occasion of the birth centenary of freedom fighter and former national commissioner of scouts and guides, Deendayal Naidu. Dignitaries offered floral tributes to the photo of the late Naidu.
Leader of Rovers and Rangers Moot, Analendra Sharma, presented Moot report. State commissioner of scouts and guides, P G R Sindhia, was felicitated. Rector of the college, Fr Dionisius Vaz, delivered valedictory address.
