Udupi: SP Sanjeev Patil's transfer - punishment for reining in Matka trade?

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 1: Dr Sanjeev M Patil was the superintendent of police (SP) of this district only for five months before he was transferred all of a sudden as deputy commissioner of police (administration), Bengaluru commisisonerate. Patil had taken several people-centric measures like 'SP Phone-in' programme in which he responded to problems faced by the people instantly. This programme, held every Saturday, had earned him lot of popularity.

The SP had worked to implement several suggestions given by people and had himself entered the field when found necessary to handle the situation including traffic chaos. He also gets credit for handling law and order situation during the historic 'Dharma Sansad' programme in the city without any hiccups.

The SP had taken hard steps against Matka business that has been thriving in the district and robbing poor families of their peace of mind. He had announced reward for giving concrete information about the main accused in Matka business, who is missing. He also had recommended for the externment of 11 trouble mongers from the district towards bringing down Matka business. Patil also had succeeded in nabbing inter-state robbers who had robbed gold ornaments worth one crore rupees when they were being taken from Mumbai to Kerala. He had also taken additional responsibility of handling the situation during disturbances following Paresh Mesta at Honnavar for 15 days.

Patil came to the district at a time when people were losing faith in police department after the departure of SP, Annamalai, who was known to be no-nonsense police officer.

People are curious to know reasons for his transfer even before he could complete six months of service in his capacity as SP here. Several have expressed suspicion that his ruthless action against Matka and other forms of gambling would have earned him the ire of the mighty and acted against his interests.

It is being expected that after the visit of chief minister, Siddaramaiah, to the town on January 8, deputy commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis, will also be transferred.

These are routine administrative transfers carried out by government to facilitate effective collections for the party in power. Common people don't pay money to political parties for elections. Instead, many of them take money and liquor from them to vote them to power. These need to be financed, and are often financed by lobbies such as liquor mafia, sand mafia, matka mafia, drug mafia etc.

Honest officers are a nuisance for these collections and hence need to be transferred to ensure smooth collections. This system has been working for ages now regardless of party in power and will go on for ever. It will stop the day common people stop taking money from politicians for their vote and start voting clean people to power. But, then these people who take money for vote have a reason - POVERTY . So the show will go on.

People are already losing faith in the present state government for getting involved with honest officers.
They have school children and this sort of transfer will demoralise them and put them out of gear.

If the same happens to DC Priyanka Mary, one can be assured that the present ruling Government will loose elections in the forthcoming elections.

Our good, able and efficient police officers including others are tossed like this within a span of 6 months is very bad We condemn this kind of Govt Policy harassing the Officers by tossing like this. Such officers should get encouragement from the Govt. instead of getting punishment likeof transfer..

It is a question of time before he gets promoted prematurely for the excellent service that he has rendered to the community.

Mr. Pastel proceeds to Bangalore with the good wishes and blessings from all people in the district. I join several others in wishing Mr. Patel the best of everything in his future career.

Sad news for the Traffic Warden Squad yet again. We had enjoyed his company and learned a lot of things from him. Unfortunately for the dismay of the people of Udupi, he has been transferred again. But an honest officer has innumerable avenues to serve the people. We wish him good.

    Hi Jessy
If you don't know something please google and find the right answer.
The law and order is a state subject except in Delhi state where the Police department comes under the federal government .
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has announced a spate of transfers in recent weeks as part of the reorganization of various administrative positions in several departments including the police.
Police transfer is a lucrative income for the politicians.
Matka lobby must have spent huge money to get Mr Patil tranferred out of Udupi.

Politicians will never allow this country to come up. Whoever has orchestrated this transfer, whichever political party he or she belongs to, should be given marching orders. The people should unite and kick that person out of the district. A beginning has to be made somewhere and the educated people of Udipi district should take the lead.

This is impossible. The police must be freed from the politicians & bureaucrats. How will the peoples get justice & security. What is the BJP doing now? Why they not protesting? Bring in AAP to manjaluru. All these will be stoped.
