Kasargod, Dec 12: In a tragic incident which happened early morning on Tuesday December 12, a bus fell into a river at Thalassery Panur, causing the death of three. Cleaner of the bus was among the unfortunate victims of this accident.
The deceased have been identified as Prajith, Jithesh and Hemalata from Koothuparamba. The death toll would have been much more, but for the fact that the bus had only a handful of passengers when the accident occurred.
Driver of the bus suffered serious injuries. He stands hospitalized.
The bus was moving to Thalassery from Bengaluru when it brushed against the protective walls of a bridge near Perangathur before jumping into the river. Reportedly the bus had only four persons including the bus staff at the time it fell into the river. The police have arranged for expert divers to conduct search operations in the river to check whether more people were in the bus.
Fire brigade, police personnel and locals joined hands in conducting rescue operation. They brought out three bodies and the driver from inside the river. The work on pulling the bus to the shore from the river is going on.
Movement of vehicles on this route stand suspended since the accident happened.
