Mangaluru, Dec 6: Vicar general of Mangaluru diocese, Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu who was ordained as a priest on December 5, 1967 celebrated the golden jubilee of his priesthood at Bishop's House Kodialbail on Tuesday December 5.
Msgr Denis Moras offered holy Mass at the Bishop's House chapel and prayed for the progress of all people. A programme to honour him was later chaired by Mangaluru Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza.
Fr J B Crasta read the letter of honour to Msgr Denis Moras and praised his service during his priestly life. Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza said that though Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu occupied several high positions, he lived a simple life and inspired everybody to lead a life of simplicity. “Besides that he has provided excellent suggestions to me for the administration of the diocese and helped in various capacities. Msgr Moras is wise and provided guidance to several people to conduct their duties and during difficulties. He has helped the poor immensely,” he said.
The bishop draped a shawl on Msgr Moras and honoured him with a Peta. M P Noronha, secretary of the diocese presented a flower bouquet, congratulated and conveyed his best wishes to Msgr Moras on behalf of the diocese.
Msgr Moras responding to the felicitations, expressed his gratitude to the Almighty and thanked the bishop, priests, nuns, secretary M P Noronha and large number of friends and relatives who he said helped him in different ways.
“I have friends belonging to different religions and castes. They have helped me a lot. Jesus has inspired me to serve in life. I am eager to continue serving in future,” he said.
Fr Valerian Fernandes welcomed. Diocese chancellor Fr Henry Sequeira, Procurator Fr John Vas, public relations officer Fr William Menezes, senate secretary Fr J B Saldanha, large number of priests, nuns and social leaders were present.
