Bengaluru: Who will ‘convert’ money offered to God in banned currency?

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 2: A year is over since the demonetisation came into effect. However, the offering of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes is still continuing in most of the temples. So far Rs 10 crore worth old notes, offered by the devotees, have been found in the donation boxes of temples throughout the state.

This Rs 10 crore amount is that of the temples that come under the control of Muzrai department only. The state government has approached the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in order to get this amount exchanged into legal currency. RBI has not responded to a letter written by the Muzrai department in this regard. The state government which is not happy by the apathy shown by the RBI is in a dilemma as to how to legalize this money.

The intelligent devotees have washed off their sins by donating bundles of the banned notes. However, a situation has arisen where the God has to take care of his money. An amount of Rs 77 lac, consisting of the banned Rs 500 and 1000 notes, was found in donation boxes of famous 11 temples of the state. This figure is given by the Muzrai department, which broke open the donation boxes of all the temples that come under its control.

Padmanabha Kotian, member of the Karnataka Rajya Dharmika Parishat, says, "Banned notes of Rs 500 and 1000 are still being offered by the devotees to the temples. We have not received any response from RBI with regards to the legalization of these currency notes. The parishat had plans to renovate the temples by using this money. However, now do not know as to what should be done with this money, which is not legal anymore."

What will Murzai department do, if finely shredded plain paper sheets are filled into the donation box?
They will conveniently separate shredded paper from genuine notes and dispose off the waste. Only change this time, is they deposit the waste directly with RBI, so that a proper audit of demonetized notes can take place.
Apparently all demonetized notes have found its way back to RBI. Now these are those extra ones which they were desperately looking for and found it.

This goes on to show that even God will not forgive black money hoarders.

A Special Bench has been set up by Supreme Court to look into the pleas to exchange old notes into new one on genuine cases like NRI's or ill people who had failed to comply with DeMo in time.
This is latest news on November 3, 2017. there might be a window of opportunity for these deposits in temples too. Unless RBI get central nod or Supreme Court ruling it is helpless to oblige, keep your fingers crossed is the only solution until then.
Some currency collectors might be interested to have them at a premium too.

The devotees who offered banned currency to God are to be termed as Saitans. When RBI is not ready to accept this old currency how can the God accept it. With malafide intention these dirty minded devotees have offered old currency just to get rid of this and not offered money wiith full heartedness. Instead of blessing them God has to punish them for cheating God.

Why should we blame God for old currency when ruling party worship money?
More than 99% money has been converted to 'white'. Why the God's money should remain 'black'.

Let this money should be used for education, health care, toilets,to abolish prostitution and so on.

That is equal to cheating (God) because devotees offered it in gratitude for granting their wish. Let the Government understand the situation.

Well, not God alone, I too have a small demonetized currency, so might be many - don't suspect - its with me legally, I can explain the source. Please find a solution to the problem.

Ivanka madam, I do not think your idea of converting to Euro is possible.
As far as I am aware, the day that Modi made the announcement on TV, all major currency traders in the world sent out a flash message to their retail outlets to stop accepting those notes.

Having said that, I am not sure if the news of India’s demonetisation has reached Spain yet. If the news flash came out at the time of Spanish siesta, then there is very good chance that it might have been ignored by a few.

@Rampanna udipi, you are right. The moment of Demo in air,I asked in bank here about exchange in Euro even a week after Modis announce ment. The answer was no.we were left alone with our left backs.Later after the last date in India ,for NRI was allowed to exchange in India till this year June only .As one f my friends went to the bank denied.Asked her to go to reserve bank to mumbai.(his money was at home )well the journey was for dogs.Reserve bank told that only for indian citizens, not for Who had a froeign citizen ship .(had a poi)still her husband is having indian citizenship. They told him they will enter in passbook, which never done till now.Their money, journey to mumbai and back ,hotel bill ,all this expenditure, they could have saved.

Dear wise men of the Muzrai department,

What do you do when some kid puts a chocolate wrapper in the hundi? or when some desperate one sided aashique puts a love letter in the hundi? You separate them out and discard it.
That is exactly what you do when an invalid currency note is deposited in your donation box.

BTW, I am actually liking it that the Reserve Bank is not responding to the letters of the Muzrai department. The State Government never responds to the letters of ordinary citizens. Now it is their turn to just feel the pinch of such behavior.

It's puzzling. How can they ask RBI to legalize the illegitimate currency now? Instead of asking, if possible, to track and prosecute those who offered this currency, we want to legitimize this dubious offering. Namma Bharath Mahaan!
