Bengaluru, Dec 1: After the phenomenal success of Indira Canteens all over the state capital city of Bengaluru, which have been extended to district and taluk headquarters too, the Siddaramaiah government is going all out to launch Indira Clinics.
The launch of Indira Clinics soon after the Indira Canteens will be followed by two more projects in the name of Indira – Indira Transport and Indira Bus Pass – ostensibly to mark the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who is known for her Garibi Hatao slogan and the decisive war against Pakistan.
The Indira Transit Clinic would be inaugurated at Kempe Gowda bus stop at Majestic at 11 am on Saturday, December 2, to cater to BMTC staff and transit commuters.
The clinic’s estimated cost is Rs 15 lakh and would be borne by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
Experienced doctors and nurses would be appointed for the clinics and it would function from 10 am to 6 pm on a daily basis.
Free first aid and emergency medical services will be provided at the Indira Clinics.
Transport Minister H M Revanna said Indira Transit Clinic are set up with the collaboration of Central, State Governments and BBMP.
Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar, Urban Development Minister K J George and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy will be present at the launch of the Indira Clinics.
Based on the public response, the clinics will be extended to other TTMCs, Revanna said.
He said Indira Transport would cater bus service to women working in garment factories at subsidised rates.
Indira Pass is a facility provided to women construction workers to travel by BMTC bus at subsidised rates.
As part of the measures to ease Bengaluru’s air and sound pollution, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to introduce “less traffic day” on every second Sunday of the month, the minister said.
The aim of the programme is promoting use of public transport system and voluntary discouragement in the use of private vehicles by people and families on the day.
As second Sunday in January 2018 is Sankranthi festival holiday, he said the “less traffic day” would be introduced from second Sunday of February 2018.
The BMTC has already introduced “Bus Day” but it has not achieved expected results.
The City has 71.31 lakh registered vehicles, of which 64,36,813 are private vehicles and 49,42,170 are two-wheelers.
The number of yellow board vehicles in the City stood at 6,95,582.
