Udupi, Nov 30: Under the leadership and guidance of president Vishwanath, the executive committee of St Mary's College Alumni Association will organise ‘Alumni Day’ on January 6, 2018 at the college campus at Shirva. The programme will begin at 5.30 pm.
During the programme, professors who retired in recent years will be felicitated for their service towards college. The programme will surely bring back the memories of Guruvandana programme organised by the alumni association to honour all retired professors in 2015.
The executive committee is cordially inviting all the old students to join the Alumni Day celebrations and refresh their memories and requesting all to become part of the association by becoming patrons or life members.
About St Mary’s College, Shirva
St Mary’s College, Shirva, under the Catholic Board of Education was founded by the then parish priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Fr A Rosario in 1980. Lawrence Mendonca was the first principal for one year followed by Fr Henry Castelino who nurtured and taken care of this institution during the initial years and strived for its growth and is credited for its outstanding growth today and fondly remembered as the father of this great institution.
The college is under the protection of Mother Mary, Our Lady of Health. The burning light symbolizes the upkeep of life acquired through knowledge. The physical activity materials stand for the initiatives implemented on campus towards aiming at a sound mind in a sound body. The Cross-and-the Crown signify the importance of hard work that culminates in glowing success and well-being of human person.
The college that started with just BA and BCom in 1980, then added BBM and BCA in 2009. It also offered two post-graduation courses under Mangalore University – MSW in 2009 and MCom in year 2010. Today, the college has more than 700 students including post-graduates perusing their studies for better carrier.
St Mary’s College Alumni Association
The alumni play an important role in the development of an academic institution. Alumni play elder brother’s roles in alma mater’s development by contributing mountains of human resource and crores-worth infrastructure. Strong alumni are one of the major criteria to get accredited under The National Assessment and Accreditation Council, (NAAC).
All students who secure admission, study in the campus and pass out can become a member of the association either as life member or patrons. Alumni Executive Committee has requested all St Marians to become the members of the association and thereby help the alma mater to grow.
