Mangaluru, Nov 30: PWD minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa, said that the National Highway Authority of India will soon be submitting a proposal to state government recommending merger of the two tollgates operating near NITK Suratkal and Hejamady.
The minister was replying to a query raised at the winter session of the assembly by city (north) MLA, B A Mohiuddin Bava, on Wednesday November 29. Bava had questioned the government as to whether it is aware that two tollgates have been located on national highway 66 within a space of five km.
In a written reply, the minister said that the toll plazas which have been erected at these two places are temporary in nature and that the project implementation unit of National Highways Authority at Mangaluru has submitted a proposal to the office of the authority's chief general manager at Bengaluru to merge them. The authority has already said that it will soon forward this proposal to the state government, the minister stated.
The minister added that there was a proposal when building Suratkal tollgate to remove it after a permanent tollgate came up at Hejamady.
