Mangaluru, Nov 30: There is hope that the much-expected bus terminal-cum-transport hub at Pumpwell will come up soon. The bus terminal project, which will be executed on 7.23 acre plot near Pumpwell, got the go ahead at the Smart City project's Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) meeting held on Wednesday November 29 at Bengaluru. The estimate project cost is Rs 400 crore and the hub will be located in Maroli ward.
The session of the city corporation council chaired by mayor, Kavitha Sanil, on Tuesday November 28 had taken the decision to execute this project under Smart City scheme with public-private partnership. With the approval this proposal got at the Bengaluru meeting, there is likelihood of tender getting floated for the bus terminal project soon.
The meeting also gave its nod for upgradation of the areas excluding the internal areas falling under Lady Goschen and Wenlock Hospitals. It was also decided to pool details of the total project outlay towards upgradation of both these government hospitals and place it for approval. The meeting, which was chaired in Dakshina Kannada in-charge secretary and chairperson of the SPV, P Hemalatha, also cleared a proposal to conduct an exhaustive survey of the city to properly document all the properties belonging to the city corporation and to facilitate proper collection of property tax.
Approval has already been given for converting the road between RTO office to clock tower into smart road. Work on this project will begin by January next year. It was also decided to hold meetings of smart city every month at Mangaluru henceforth. Permission was also granted to appoint technical staff for implementation of smart city project.
Dr Vishal of urban development department, managing director of Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Plan, A B Ibrahim, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, city corporation commissioner, Muhammed Nazeer, mayor, Kavitha Sanil, chief whip, Shashidhar Hegde, members, Lancelot Pinto and Premanand Shetty, were present at the meeting.
