Mangaluru, Nov 29: Fitness freaks in the city have a new destination to shape themselves up and learn the art of self-defence. 'Monkey Mayhem Fight Club', a hi-tech self-defence training and fitness centre was inaugurated at Karunadham complex, Hampanakatta here on Wednesday, November 29.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Praveen Shetty, managing director, Fortune Group of Hotels, UAE, inaugurated the club by lighting the lamp along with Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Daijiworld founder Walter Nandalike, Bahrain-based NRI businessman Prakash Shetty, owner of Karunadham complex Karunakaran, Karate instructor Surender Gopinath, Muay Thai coach Balakrishna Shetty, and WCK president Suraj Gopinath. A Sadananda Shetty, honorary state president, Muay Thai Association of Karnataka, presided over the programme.
In his inaugural address, Nalin Kumar said, "Every ten years, Mangalureans change their taste for fitness. Anyone who knows Karate is looked upon with admiration. Those who know self-defence are lauded as heroes. The trend for youths now is going to gym for bodybuilding.
"Nowadays gyms and fitness centres are becoming attractive to youths. Our region is famous for wrestling and Kambala. Our ancestors earned popularity in self-defence fights. But today our youths are attracted towards advanced games and fitness methods. 'Monkey Mayhem' provides a golden opportunity to youngsters who want to learn Karate for self-defence and fitness. I congratulate the owners of the firm on this wonderful facility."
Addressing the gathering, Praveen Shetty said, "Monkey Mayhem is great news for the youths of the city. National-level instructors will train the youths at this firm. It will certainly provide an opportunity to our youths in kickboxing training and various types of fight games. It will pave the way for youths to emerge and showcase their talent at national and international level. The intention of this fight club is very good and I hope people like it. The owners of this firm need our support. If we can send our children to this club it will be a great blessings to the owners of 'Monkey Mayhem'."
Daijiworld founder Walter Nandalike said, "Currently we are living in a busy world. In our busy schedule, we tend to neglect our health. We are preoccupied with earning money and gaining power. We put our health at stake. Many are losing their lives at a young age these days. If we allot one hour each day for fitness, we can enjoy good health for long. With this fitness centre, Rajgopal Rai is ready to help our youths attain healthy bodies and physical fitness. Now it is our turn to use it properly and get benefited from this."
In his presidential speech, Sadananda Shetty wished the owners and hailed their initiative. He urged the parents and the gathering to support the firm by sending their children to the centre and spreading the news of this firm everywhere. He made special request to girls to join fitness centres and fight clubs to learn self-defence.
Rajagopal Rai welcomed the dignitaries and the guests. Owners Nithesh Kumar, Sachin Raj Rai and Bipin Raj Rai were present on the dais.
