Bengaluru, Nov 29: Many state Congress leaders believe that actor-turned-politician Ramya will contest from the Mandya assembly constituency in the 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls. Some of them have already made statements supporting this. If she contests, this will mark her return to state politics.
Ramya presently heads the party's social media outreach. She was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Mandya in the 2013 by-polls. Later in 2014, she lost from the same constituency.
"The people of Mandya want Ramya to contest. She is active in both state and national politics. The party will make the best use of her. But the final decision will be taken by the party high command," Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh said while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
Meanwhile incumbent Mandya MLA M H Ambareesh said on Tuesday that he will only contest in Mandya assembly constituency if the high command allows.
"I will contest only if the high command asks me to. But I welcome Ramya's candidature in Mandya," he said.
He dismissed the rumours of his wife or son contesting in the next assembly polls.
Incidentally Ambareesh is also an actor-turned-politician.
