Bengaluru, Nov 28: Retired director general of police, H N Satyanarayana Rao, has filed defamation suit against IPS officer, D Roopa, and two media houses. The suit relates to allegations that Rao had accepted bribe to provide facilities illegally to Tamil Nadu politician, Sasikala, at Parappana Agrahara central prison in the city.
The officer has quantified the suit amount as Rs 20 crore. He has also named a print media and a visual media,charging them with publishing the allegation made by Roppa in toto. The case has been filed in city civil court.
The court, which verified the documents, posted the case for hearing to December 12.
Roopa, the then deputy inspector general (prisons), had given written complaint against Rao in writing to the government, accusing him of accepting bribe. Satyanarayana Rao, who claimed that his entire service did not have even a black spot, had rebuked Roopa for levelling the charges by relying on information provided by someone.
As the news made national headlines, Rao, who was just three days away from retirement, had been sent on compulsory leave. He had earlier served notice to Roopa, seeking her reply, and urging her to tender unconditional apology. He also had stipulated that this apology should be published in the media.
