Mangaluru, Nov 27: The police, it is learnt, have taken into custody two persons into custody on the suspicion that Safwan (24) from Chokkabettu eighth block in Katipalla village near Suratkal, who was kidnapped by a rowdy gang from near Krishnapura, has been killed.
As per an information, Safwan (24) had been killed on the day he was abducted and his body was thrown away at Agumbe Ghat area. Police personnel are yet to confirm genuineness of this information. The arrested suspects are Bombay Faizal and Sahil.
City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that the police have been questioning the two who have been taken into custody and expressed the confidence of being able to cracking the case in a couple of days.
Safwan had been kidnapped on the evening of October 5 this year by five persons who came in a vehicle at about 6 pm. Members of the general public, who had witnessed the incident, had informed the father of the victim about the abduction. Safwan's father, Abdul Hameed, had filed complaint in Suratkal police station the same night. Although it has been over seven weeks since the abduction, Safwan remains untraced.
Workers of Democratic Youth Federation of India, urging the police to find out the thereabouts of Safwan and his abductors at an early date, had taken out a procession from the residence of Safwan to Suratklal police station. Three teams, one each from city crime branch and Suratkal police, and another team headed by assistant commissioner of police, city north subdivision, had been entrusted with investigation of this case. Police personnel of these teams have travelled to various parts of the country in a bid to find out the abducted person and the culprits. Two persons have now been nabbed.
The police had, in the initial stages of investigation, identified the kidnappers as Samshuddin from Mukka, Safwan Hussain from Suratkal, Faizal alias Toppi Faizal, Shahil from Suratkal and Sufian from Ballari.
