Udupi, Nov 26: During the morning session of the third and final day of Dharma Sansad here, a resolution was passed against cow slaughter, one of the key issues discussed during the three-day religious parliament.
On the occasion, Sri Visheweshateertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math and Dharmadhikar of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dr Veerendra Heggade were felicitated.
The resolution called for protection of cows, closure of abattoirs and complete ban on cow slaughter across India.
"It is scientifically proven that the medicinal properties present in cow urine and dung of cows of Indian origin not only improves the immunity of human beings but also have the power of controlling the harmful agricultural pests. Cow urine and dung are helpful in protecting environment and pollution. There is an urgent need to conserve and grow the Indian cows for the all-round development and green revolution of India," the resolution states.
"The Hindu society and seers demand a complete ban on cow slaughter all over India. The Constitution and judicial system of India are always in favour of the strong law to ban the slaughter of cows. In most of the states of our country ban on cow slaughter is in place for a long time. However, this rule is being violated all over the country. The Hindu religious leaders condemn the public slaughter and distribution of cow meat in states like Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
"Dharma Sansad urges the central government to close all slaughterhouses throughout India as per the orders of national green tribunal. Facility of DNA testing should be provided at all ports to prevent the illegal export of cow meat. People found guilty of illegally exporting beef should be given life imprisonment and their licence should be cancelled.
"Protection and service of cows is an integral part of our society. Mahatma Gandhi, who knew the importance of this, told that 'swaraj will be incomplete without cow protection'. People like Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya, Niranjana Devateertha, Prabhuduttji Brahmachari, Pandit Ramachandra Veera Maharaj and Acharya Vinoba Bhave undertook 'fast unto death' demanding the central law to protect the cows. Pandit Deendayal Upadhayay dreamt of 'bright future India' through cow supported agriculture. Without the protection of cow this is not possible.
"Dharma Sansad calls upon central and state governments to give orders to district commissioners to open cow pastures. Government has to build 'cow sanctuary' for the protection of cows. There should be a scientific investigation with regards to the slaughter of Indian cows. Public should be made aware of cow breed improvization, growth of dairy and panchgavya medicine (concoction prepared by mixing five products of cow and used in traditional Indian rituals) etc. In order to conserve and grow Indian breed of cows, a system should be put in place in 'original breed development centers' to produce more bulls of Indian origin. Cow supported agriculture system should be included in the education syllabus.
"Identification card should be decided for the sale of Indian breed of cows. Nodal officers, appointed as per the order of central government and court, should extend their scope of activities and keep an eye on the cow thieves and slaughterers. Permission letter given by the district commissioner to prevent the illegal transportation of cows should be computerized. Stringent action should be taken against people who are involved in illegal activities. Hindus should be aware of protection and rearing of cows. One should not desert the cow on road after milking. It is equal to mortal sin. Every citizen should adopt at least one cow and bear its expenditure. In family functions panchagavya made of Indian cow breed should only be used. These are the demands of the Dharma Sansad," the resolution stated.
