Udupi, Nov 25: Udupi police led by SP Sanjeev Patil on Saturday November 25 intercepted and seized over 20 two-wheelers belonging to VHP activists, including a minor, for holding a rally without permission.
The activists were riding in a big group carrying flags from Manipal to Udupi. When they reached near a welcome arch of Dharma Sansad at Kalsanka, the police stopped them.
SP Sanjeev Patil who was also at the spot overseeing security told the activists that they could not proceed with the bike rally as no permission was sought.
Among the riders was a 13-year-old boy, who, besides being too young to ride, did not wear helmet either.
The police then seized the bikes and parked them on the roadside.
On receiving information, VHP district president Vilas Nayak arrived at the spot and spoke to the SP.
The SP told Vilas Nayak that the activists were holding the bike rally without permission, and particularly objected to including minor in the rally.
"There is a lot of work to be done related to Dharma Sansad. Let the activists get busy with that instead of going around in bikes. They have been working hard for the past three months for this event. Let them not ruin it all by doing such things," SP Patil advised.
He also said that a case will be booked against the minor's parents for letting him ride. His two-wheeler also did not carry number plate, it is said.
All the bikes except the minor's were later released.
