Mangaluru: Big Bazaar Attavar raided for not reducing GST rates

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Nov 25: The officials from the department of weights and measures raided Big Bazaar shop in Attavar on Saturday, November 25 following allegations of cheating in GST rates.

It was revealed after the raids that the mall was selling the many items at higher price even though the union government has reduced GST on 173 products including soaps from 18% to 9% from November 15. They were selling the products at same MRP fixed before reduction of GST.

“Thousands of consumers have been cheated by this. They have to be cautious while shopping,” said an official.

Officials said that they will visit more shopping malls in the city for verification.

A case of cheating has been registered against Big Bazaar.

I am happy that Attavar Big Bazaar is raided.. The reason is not GST(but still I am happy) but for some other reason

In 2017 mid, I went to attavar bigbazzar to buy an Prestige Gas Stove , that day was the discount day..
Assume the stove price is 5000 and they were given 25% discount so actually mrp after discount should be 3750, but they mentioned it as 4200. When I asked about it(25% discount price) to a lady who was incharge of that section, she told the calculation comes for higher end. Being educated, I acted like to believe what they told

After seeing that stove and inquiring about that i went to other department.

When I came back to same spot after 30 min. The discount is changed from 25% to 20% I was shocked to see it..
Again I asked (argued) the same lady about discount, she told it is big bazzar rule..
Same, being educated, I acted like to believe what they told

I had no option but I wanetd to buy the stove

My question is where big bazzar discount price is keep on changing for every hour?

Caution for buyers, if you find good discount, purchase at same time without making 5 min delay.. or else big bazzar worker might change the discount price..

Attavar Big Bazaar has worst service and they tell lies

With due respect to all who commented and irrespective of who is ruling, This is the grave blunder from Govt to change rules overnight as per their whims and fantasies. Have anyone thought of the below practical issues faced by all traders, manufactures due to GST and its implementation.?
    1. Till July 1st there was no clear information on which goods fall under which category and Govt was busy in changing everything everyday.
    2. When GST was implemented, tax rate for most of the FMCG goods raised from 14.5% to 18% and 28% and that time did the Big Bazar or any traders increased the MRP.? Instead they had to absorb the increased tax burden on their own with hope to get the refund from Govt which is still a hope only and not realized so far.
    3. Now when the GST rates are reduced all want the prices to be reduced. for the Stock puchased before 15th Nov at 28% GST, who is going to compensate the trader for the tax difference.

Instead of playing this trial and error drama, Govt should have implemented the new tax regime after fixing the errors and glitches which would have been welcomed by all.

True fact is someone need expertise to ascertain and fix the errors which the the Implementing Body lacks.

    Sir,
Please go through the GST properly. GST has not only replaced VAT, it has also repalced excise, some import duties, service tax and various other taxes. Dont compare GST rates with only VAT rates. Please gather more information before making a comment. Please consult a chartered accountant for more clarity. Because you have totally misunderstood GST as many other people have.

    Sir,

I fully agree with your point that GST had replaced many other taxes including exercise but unfortunately its not enough to agree with your thought.

For you it may be easy to comment but unless you swim the waters you cant feel the depth my friend.

I fail to understand how can Big Bazar be raided for selling goods on MRP rates...??. They must have purchased these goods by paying 18% gst and hence the old MRP labels are there. Now suddenly the govt has revised the gst so what can the Big Bazar do about it. Are they expected to sell at a loss..??. Its the fault of the govt. They have implemented the gst in a very haphazard manner. Maybe Arun Jaitley did not know its implications because GST was not their creation as they had stolen this idea from Manmohan Singh

The extra tax collected does not belong to the merchant. It should be recovered with penalty and deposited with the local consumer courts. Aggrieved customers can claim it back by providing proof of purchase. Unclaimed money can be used for better functioning of consumer courts. It is a fair game.

I dont think the establishment is cheating . they may be having the goods of prior GST reduced MRP. Now the establishment cant change the label of the company . The Govt. only is responsible for the mess the business man is into ,by these frequent changes

Govt had given them 15 days and also said that if they cannot change the label, they should make changes in the billing system and bill them less. This change doesnt take much time.
You can blame the govt all you want, but you will see the price reduction soon in these stores.

It will be very difficult, if not impossible for the government to control this kind of cheating by the traders.
Every businessman wants to have more profit, and the current situation of confusion and ignorance about the GST rates for different goods makes it easier for them to cheat the public.

There are many hotels in Hampankatta which have not reduced the prices after the reduction in GST. When I questioned the Taj Mahal Cafe, their contention was that they never increased the prices even after the GST was introduced. I am baffled by this reply. May be some readers can throw light on this.

    Possible.
Some businesses opted to pay gst from their profit without increasing prices.
If you remember price of masal dosa during may2017 and compare with today's rate...
