Bengaluru: Doctors' strike – 65 deaths in five days, last day was worse

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Nov 18: Death toll due to the strike of private doctors rose to 65, with 24 people succumbing to death, due to non-availability of timely treatment, on the last day of the strike on Friday, November 17.

Out-patient departments were open in several parts of the state as per the High Court directive. However, doctors were not available to administer the treatment to the patients as they were participating in the protest at Belagavi. Though, most of the private hospitals in Bengaluru provided treatment, out-patient care affected in district level private hospitals.
Because of the situation, on Friday alone, total 24 people lost their lives, including a 45-days-old baby.

3 people died in Dakshina Kannada district on Friday.

Some hospitals closed their out-patient department in the afternoon, after providing treatment for patients, who reported in the morning.

The doctors at all government hospitals at district and taluk level, including Bengaluru in city, gave relentless service to the patients.

there are lots of Auervedic doctors who claim that their ancient vedic medicines can cure anything from cancer to HIV . So, why care if these doctors go on strike? All others are going on strike. Why not them.

Now I think it's matching... now siddaramaiah also can be called as "Narahantaka" and all... as he always quote Modi. Now in your state 65 people died due to your governance failure.... what do u want to call this as.... at least realize the fact and shut yourself... some shame left, withdraw from election, surrender the power and seat, go to some aashram .... and take deekshe.... may get some moksha.... or else... na idhar ka na udhar ka hojaavoge siddu.

Here i refer to them as DR. Death,

Most of them are over prescribing Medicine to their patients or prescribe medicines which are to be tried and tested. This leads to severe side effects and make patients severely ill,so taking advantage of the situation to make more money and get rich . I lost faith on these Doctors since i lost my Dear One due to similar situation.

Ironical but true; Whenever medical doctors go on strike, a most interesting phenomenon occurs - death rates go down! In 1976 in Bogota, Columbia medical doctors went on strike for 52 days, with only emergency care available. The death rate dropped by 35%. In 1976 in Los Angeles County a similar doctors' strike resulted in an 18% drop in mortality. As soon as the strike was over, the death rate went back to normal. A 50% decrease in mortality occurred in Israel in 1973 when there was a one month doctor's strike!-WWW-

This strike by docs is a big blot on the "so called noble profession", which resulted in the deaths of mostly poor citizens! They should have taken recourse to legal methods instead of resorting such lowly actions, protesting, by sitting on the roads like uneducated coolie workers!!

    There are two mouth snakes
    Here two mouth people.
Children death due to oxygen also same way.
Many children die even after treatment.
    So why blame yogi then?

In this forum some commentators are of the opinion that 65 people would have died even with best available treatment!

No, it’s two different issues. Children’s death in UP is totally due to negligency. But here it is selfish people who purposely made to suffer general public, especially poor sector, oppositions have garnered political benefits from this issue. If they had little humanity with them, they would have stopped this inhuman act.

Sad.. you itself or anyone from your blood relation must be a Doctor. Well, i can understand the situation being an engineer which has no value like before since last few years. Ab doctor ki baari hai, simple accept karna hi padega. But here poor and middle class ppl will get the huge benefits. Our india is not rich financially but in another side ppl spend lacs or crors of rupees to become a doctor and that is a sad part.

We can blame only our Education system in india cannot blame doctor as well.
Let's hope for the best !

The only question is, whether during the strike period (and also on Nov 3rd 2017), Casualty and Emergency services were operational in private hospitals or no. It was clearly communicated by the IMA and Private Hospital Association that only OPD and Elective procedures will be affected. Will the guilty hospitals be brought to book? Or will we say RIP and forget about it? How irresponsible of hospitals to say that Doctors have gone to Belagavi without arranging backup team to manage emergency cases?

I am ok with all modifications except the treatment rates one. I am not jealous that all ultra luxury car showrooms major customers are doctors. I am not happy that it is left to their discretion. At least it should have been capped at say 2 times or 3 times of government hospitals based on some star rating.
And I am sure no one likes being hand twisted.

Siddaramaiahs's govt is solely responsible for all these problems. It spends crores if rupees for eating drinking mineral water but no time to listen to doctors or solve their woes.Again blaming them for all death during two days of strike.Let govt give the number of death in Karnataka per day when they are not on strike. For many natural deaths too blame us being put on them....

Make CM Sidderamaiah & Health Minister responsible for so many deaths. Make sure all those get compensation from CM & Health Minister salary, their other looted resources.
These people have created total mess in the state.
Whatever the governments take decisions, only poor bear the brunt & die for no fault of theirs.
Make strict laws regarding Doctors & Lawyers Fees.
Doctors loot the public in the name of Health. They prescribe expensive medicines & unnecessary tests at Clinics & Hospitals to get commission.
Lawyers loot the public in the name of Services & Justice, there is no control at all...
You can see expensive properties worth crores are with Lawyers & Doctors in cities.

Lawyers also charge very high fees. They have added advantage that, unlike doctors they are not accused of negligence if they fail in the case. People do not attack them or their office if the judgement goes against them. Judges also make serious mistakes, one court finds them guilty and later with the same set of evidence judges in the higher court give a different verdict and release the accused. The judge who gave wrong judgement in lower court will never be questioned unlike the doctors.

Judges take years to examine the witnesses and the available evidence and then give their judgement. And if that judgement is wrong acccording to higher court judge, they are not held responsible.
Whereas the doctors treating emergency cases have only few minutes and they have to judge based on available clinical signs and start treatment immediately.
If they make a wrong decision in a hurry or oversight, they will be sued and can go to jail.

Patients who are critically ill die every day, even after they get timely treatment.
So this number is not accurate because we can not say that they would have definitely survived if the doctor was available. Sometimes patients die because they get wrong treatment.

65 deaths is really tragic! I only get these 2 questions in my mind-
Would the 65 patients survive if they received timely treatment?
Will action be taken for negligence?
