Bengaluru: Doctors' strike claims five more lives in state including PDO

Bengaluru Nov 14 (DHNS): More deaths were reported from different places in the state as they were unable to get timely care due to the doctors' strike on Tuesday.

A 56-year-old panchayat development officer PDO, who suffered a heart attack, died as he could not get medical attention. Gyanappa Budnal of Mukkumpi in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district, who was working as a PDO in Vanaballari of Koppal taluk, complained of chest pain. The officer died as he could not get treatment at a private hospital where he was taken, his family said.

Shekhappa Gyanappa Jakkali, 60, an APMC trader, died of a heart attack at Ilkal in Hungund taluk of Bagalkot district. Jakkali complained of chest pain in the wee hours due to a dip in blood pressure. As the private hospitals were closed due to the strike, he was taken to the government hospital.

Even before medical officer Dr Biradar could examine him, Jakkali breathed his last, hospital sources said.

A three-month-old infant, which was suffering from breathing problems, died as it could not get timely medical care in Hassan.

The victim is Ibrahim, son of Nadeem and Farhana, residents of Siddaiahana Nagar. The baby was suffering from breathing problems for the past four days. The infant was treated at a hospital in Tiptur, where Farhana had gone for her delivery.

As the baby did not recover, it was brought to Hassan on Monday. Ibrahim could not get proper treatment as all private hospitals remained closed. The couple took the baby to the district hospital for treatment and returned to Tiptur.

But Ibrahim's condition turned critical at night. The baby died when the parents were bringing him to the hospital in Hassan in a bus.

Kallavva Srishail Ambi (12), a resident of Nadi-Ingalgaon village in Athani taluk, Belagavi district. Kallavva, a diabetic, was suffering from abdominal pain. As the girl was about to go unconscious, she was taken to a private hospital, but she did not receive treatment as the doctors are on strike.

Kallavva was admitted to the government hospital in Athani, where she died during treatment.

Vaishnavi Jadhav, 9, of Dharwad, who was undergoing treatment for dengue at the Kims Hospital in Hubballi, died on Monday night. She was refused treatment at private hospitals and had to be taken to the Kims Hospital.

As per some reports Health minister Ramesh Kumar has the approval of Congress highcommand to go ahead with the KPMEA 2017 thinking that it will score some brownie points for the next assembly elections.
But the facts on the ground is different Doctors throughout Karnataka have successfully made public understand how much horrendous the consequences will be on the first day of the strike itself .This one incident is enough to prove how unripe the decision is .There will be major medical disaster as the Doctors throughout Karnataka have joined in the protest like never before.I think Hon Supreme court may take suo Moto cognizance of case .
Ex Justice of SC Santhosh Hegde has said this KPME A will be striked down by Court in first sitting itself .Still Ramesh Kumar has decided to play with 🔥 fire

""" Santhosh Hegde has said this KPME A will be striked down by Court in first sitting itself"""" . OMG .... courts have enough times to discuss such cases... but it needs 10 - 15 years to decide other cases .. Santosh hegde never thought of cleaning this injustice , when he was in service, instead he is busy in giving Bhashans on scams and corruption .....

In this case, the government is trying to hide its own mistakes of not being able to provide good health care at the government hospitals. Why don't people go to government hospitals in our country? Quite evidently, because of the abysmal state of affairs in the government run hospitals. That is the reason why people flock to the private hospitals. Instead of arm twisting the private hospitals, let the government improve the services it provides in the hospitals and people will be only too happy to avoid the private hospitals. This happens in many countries abroad. Most of the people visit the government hospitals where the service is as good as the one provided by the private hospitals. In our country just pay a visit to a government hospital and see they way patients have to bribe to get good services. Let the government first stop this.

Karnataka Government is solely responsible for this fiasco and, it seems, this is only a beginning. The draconian KPME Act has started to give rich dividends. Mr. Ramesh Kumar will deny an honorable second term to Mr. Siddaramaiah.....!

Instead of making government hospitals more modern and more service oriented, this government interfering in private clinics.
    Shame on stage government...

Government should challenge private hospitals by providing health services better than private nursing homes. Then only people can see acche din.

Elsewhere Govt.doesn't meddle with private care hospitals..so doctors don't have to protest. In UK Govt.hospitals themselves provide excellent health care and pay doctors well..so no question of private care.Understand and comment. This will be the fate of health care if Pvt.hospitals close & everyone has to go to Govt hospitals...that's why doctors are making themselves heard as this will the future if KPMEA act is passed. No one can run establishments without earning. What does the Gov't mean by fixing rates ..that too absurd low rates? How to pay Nursing staff? Bills?Support staff? The Gov't is being foolish with regards to this act.Doctors had to protest. It's a question of survival for both private health care sector and patients.Support doctors against the Gov't.after going through the provisions of the KPMEA .

May I refer you to my article in the same paper written yesterday. I agree with you that deaths are unjustifiable but please understand that what you are seeing is probably a warning of what is to come if the act is amended. There is a real risk that small nursing homes will be wiped out and the population, especially in the rural areas, will have to depend on PHCs and government facilities with little or nonexistent infrastructure.

There r govt hospitals at all places, then why r people dying bcoz of strike by private doctors? Get used to this bcoz if govt implies this act, then all Pvt doctors will leave Karnataka. Don't blame doctors, blame your govt.

You keep forgetting that doctors are also humans, and show no humanity towards doctors, and then ask for humanity from doctors? Still, doctors forget your dress and keep working, that's professionalism. And doctor's strike is for you people only. If this act is implied, then all private doctors will shut down. So either support the doctors, or get used to govt hospitals, your choice.
