Udupi: Suzlon Energy declares lockout from Monday midnight

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 14: Citing operational difficulties, Suzlon Energy which has its manufacturing plant near Padubidri, declared lockout with effect from midnight on Monday November 13. It said that it has been decided to declare lockout under sub-section 2 section, 22 of Industrial Disputes Act.

Suzlon is manufacturing wind energy turbines and blades. The company officials did not give any advance intimation about their intention to declare lockout.

The company has pointed out that between April and October 2017 this year, only 78 blade sets had been manufactured at this facility as against the target of 214. It has observed misconduct and go slow policy followed by the workers in spite of repeated instructions against them, it said. It also added that acts of sabotage had resulted in considerable loss to the company.

The workers in night shift were suddenly sent out of the premises. As a result, over 600 workers including 326 employees of the company have lost their jobs. Since Tuesday morning, a large number of labourers gathered in front of the main gate of the company.

It may be recalled that two weeks back, contract workers of the company had held protest over issues concerning their wages. More than 130 workers had been dismissed thereafter.

Karnataka government is equally responsible for the bad situation of the company. Karnataka government is cancelling the signed Power Purchase Agreements and blackmailing power producers. In return, companies are cutting cost and pressurizing workers to increase the output. Karnataka government should take the responsibility of 600 workers becoming jobless.

Why Suzlon Failed & Share Price is Going Down... By BSE2NSE author Manikandan

I have watched Suzlon fall from highs of over 400 in 2008 to lows of 11 till date and we should soon see it enter single digit.

Last year, we gave a sell or Avoid call on Suzlon when it was at around 55.

I am sure everyone is wondering why such a big fall? Below are few major reasons that i can think of
99% of Promoter Stake is Pledged. It was the same case with Satyam. This i believe is the single most reason for such a fall. Always, stay away from a company whose promoter stake is pledged.
They have high debt levels of over 6000 Crores and has always made losses in the last 5 years.
Bad Management, going for un-necessary acquisitions, pledging their stake and so on.

Just stay away from such companies. Never try to get into such stocks. Believe me, there are much better investor friendly stocks to invest your hard earned money in.

I have not seen any industries coming to Karnataka in the last 5 years. All are moving to Hyderabad and Telangana due to so many benefits. Today the politicians are enjoying because of real estate money and it was due to so many companies coming to Karnataka. Once they move out, real estate will go down and no jobs and no money.

This is one example of how less effective our BJP and Congress leaders are in Coastal belt. They are just fit enough to give long speech and create communal violence,Making frauds and filling their fat tummy's with some more fresh notes.Useless fellows. From last few years I see only some road work other than that nothing has been changed in mangalore.
Where are the funds which are given for Smart City? All dissolved and drunk???
I only hear that many other big companies are going close & cut down their operations in Mangalore.
Now a days I feel ministers in Bangalore and some North Karnataka part are more powerful than our new and old ministers in Coastal region .Why couldn't they bring any MNC to Mangalore even after having a good Port facility. Why don't government fund Suzlon and Bring up a Solar Panel Manufacturing or Car Manufacturing plant,Where is BIOCON.All the Proposals are just in papers and speech.Nothing is been materialized.
In this case Even Suzlon might have internal issue's.But government of karnataka instead of funding Indira Canteen Near Ullal and other 5 regions and wasting money they can Help Suzlon and save some families in our so called peaceful mangalore.Use your powers dear ministers.

Talking without sense doesn't make sense.
Suzlon is in debt from a long time.
Added to it ,if the labours are having problems working, god help them.
By the way, what is siddu doing?
Blaming everything on Modi won't work .
Maybe a few sikulars think it's that way, but then they are a minority.

Sure... Let's follow Pakistan's strategy. I see they're doing really well . Democracy is for fools right ?

I'm sorry but everytime someone says something stupid like this it boils my blood. Yes we do have problems in our democracy. Yes maybe while compared to China we're slower in decision making. But to say you would prefer military rule is just plain stupid. No disrespect to the Army but they're not meant to run a country. They're there to defend us nothing more. We may need to introduce changes in our democratic system to get more accountability from our leaders but these are all issues we will be able to eventually solve. All I'm saying is don't lose faith in our democracy, start demanding accountability from the leaders you vote to power.

These trade unions are here to blame . They play a major role in such disputes . As long as office bearers of these unions get good money from company management they balance acts between workers and management. When the funds stop coming they just start disputes in the name of workers which ultimately lead to diasters in running day to day operations .

I have seen in my past 30 years of industrial experience that local people become more arrogant due to political connections. This not only in Karnataka ,but another state be it Kerala, Goa, TN, Andhra, WB etc .etc. But if the same workers go to other state they work quietly. See the number of people from Kerala or WB woking in Mangalore. They do not protest or do anything. But same job is given to them in their state they will call a strike. The same is the case when you work in Middle East. Locals most of the time want to spend their time than work. But people who have come from other countries struggle make the deadline. The people who do not do similar work in their parent country would work hard for prestige and for money. I am not sure of Suzlon as the company was not doing well since it started and due to takeover of the other companies it lost it's financial acumen. There has been lot of competition in wind energy and the model under which they were selling their wind turbine gradually started to fail

I don't know about this particular case. But in India most workers once they get a decent job get greedy. That leads to their downfall and that of the country. Labour laws should be changed to fire those who don't work or resort to 'work to rule'.
