Kuwait, Jun 27: ‘Konkani Kullvar’, a forum of writers has forum, has formed ‘Kullvar Rangmanchi’, in an effort to promote Konkani art and culture as well as to encourage new and budding artists.
The forum will be inaugurated officially on August 29, 2008, on the occasion of Konkani Day. A dream of well-known writers Lancy Pinto Nayak Kulshekar and the late Johny Suratkal, Konkani Kullvar was founded in 2001. At present, the organization has more than 70 members and the number is steadily rising.
Konkani Kullvar has conducted numerous literary workshops, poetry sessions, felicitation of Konkani activists, publication of Konkani books, financial help to the families of deceased writers, free stage shows and programmes. Musicians, singers, actors and stage technicians, are all found among the members.
Seeing the rich talent of all these individuals, Nayak came up with the idea of a separate entity to consolidate all this creativity under one name. Thus, was formed the Kullvar Rangmanchi. The announcement was made by Shaan Bondel at a meeting held at the residence of Ivan and Janet Almeida in Abu-Halifa.
He gave a brief introduction of Rangmanchi and its intended purpose. Bondel said Kullvar writers’ forum and Rangmanchi would operate together and individuals could choose to be members of both or either. Neither group would have membership fees and Nayak would remain convener for both forums.
Olivera Flavia Trasi, recent winner of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya academy award, was nominated coordinator of the writers’ forum, along with existing coordinator Janet Almeida. Ida D’Silva Paladka and Shaan Bondel will be the coordinators of Kullvar Rangmanchi.
The forum will celebrate Konkani day at Indian community school, Salmiyah, at 6 pm. Konkani activists will be felicitated on the occasion, and there will be performances by new and budding singers under the aegis of Rangmanchi. There will also be a staging of ‘Dantak Dant, Dollyak Dollo,’ a new comedy play starring renowned artists.
The Rangmanchi is seeking new talent in all fields. Training will be provided on a professional level, under the guidance of qualified trainers. The forum also welcomes financial supporters/sponsors, to conduct these training camps and stage programs.
