Mangaluru, Nov 12: In an initiative that is aimed at taking the medical knowledge pool in Mangaluru to a whole new level, some of the leading names of the medical fraternity on Saturday November 11 launched www.medhub.com in a ceremony held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here
Meduhub is an online medical learning platform that teaches subjects in a holistic and integrated manner, emphasizing conceptual learning rather than rote learning. The concept is the brainchild of Dr Prasad Hegde, a prominent educationist and a leading radiologist.
The innovative learning platform was inaugurated by Dr Shantaram Shetty, pro-chancellor of Nitte University, in the presence of Dr Prasad Hegde, Dr Sudarshan Bhandary, Dr Jayaprakash and Dr Sudheer Hegde. A brief video presentation on meduhub.com followed.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shantaram Shetty said, "It is not necessary to be a part of formal set-up to educate oneself. One can learn informally too. Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational.
"Education facilitates learning, helps acquire knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Though India is highly populated, it is regretful that majority of people are illiterate. Though it is important to have a good teacher to educate oneself, the present generation can acquire information and knowledge with a click of a button,” he said.
Appreciating Dr Prasad Hegde’s brainchild ‘Meduhub,’ Dr Shetty said that the portal is convenient for students to learn anatomy, physiology and biochemistry from home.
With high-tech innovation like Meduhub, problem-based education has been made easy. The portal will help medicos to become professional practitioners, he added.
Briefing about Meduhub, Dr Prasad Hegde said,” Meduhub is an integrated and experiential medical learning platform. The three primary subjects’ anatomy, physiology and biochemistry have been inter-connected in order to facilitate integrated learning. The unique teaching methods stimulate problem-solving skills among students and interactive content encourages conceptual learning,” he said.
“Meduhub is being curated by experienced teachers and endorsed by top practitioners. It adopts the latest technology, incorporating: customised interactive 3D models, animations, videos, and real-life case studies within the lessons, to help visualise and correlate the different systems in the human body. Through experiential learning, Students learn to assimilate skills and knowledge from multiple sources and apply them in different contexts,” added Dr Hegde.
He said that the portal aims to be the best learning resource for medical scholars and professionals. It aims to prepare a confident generation of MBBS students to excel in their medical practice, through integrated subject knowledge, experiential methodology and advanced technology.
The three subject matter experts (SME) of Meduhub namely Chandni Pinto, MSc anatomy; Sathya Bhama C V, MSc medical physiology; and Girija Venkatesh, MSc biochemistry were introduced to the audience.
