Udupi, Nov 12: South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd (SCDCC) president, 'Sahakara Ratna', M N Rajendra Kumar, who was recently chosen to head Karnataka State Apex Cooperative Bank Ltd, was felicitated by people associated with cooperative sector in the district on Saturday November 11. At the function, which was organized at Ammani Ramanna Shetty hall here, president of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Mangaluru, K Raviraj Hegde, who has bagged National Dairy Excellency award, was also feted.
Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, who inaugurated the programme, delivered benedictory address in which he wished that both the achievers who have reached the pinnacles of success in cooperative sector, will be showered by Lord Krishna's grace in abundance.
District in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, who presided, gave full credit to SCDCC Bank and milk union for helping women from the district to become self reliant. He said that if was in fitness of things that both the stalwarts heading these to institutions were being honoured.
MLA and former minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, and district women's union president, Sarala B Kanchan, congratulated the duo on their success.
"Rajendra Kumar has engaged himself in the cooperative sector for the past 40 years and faced a lot of difficulties. Dr Rajendra and Raviraj strengthened the women belonging to the poor class. He proved that women are not restricted to the kitchen. That was the period, the economy improved," said Sorake.
Rajendra Kumar, his wife, Aruna, as well as Raviraj Hegde and Vinaya couple were seated in cradle specially decorated with flowers, after which they were presented with cooperative chariot and yoke along with conferring the title, 'Sahakari Samrat'. The guests also offered the two couples with rice mura, bunch of betel nut, banana, coconut, ears of paddy corn and huge rose garland which were brought to the accompaniment of traditional instruments like Chende, trumpet, and other musical instruments.
Rajendra Kumar, who received the felicitation, said that the women of the twin-districts have now realized the benefits of becoming members of 'Navodaya self help groups'. He said that there is plan to provide uniform to members of all Navodaya groups in the district and that plans are afoot to open a urea factory by cooperative apex bank.
Chairman of Dakshina Kannada District Fisheries Marketting Federation, Yashpal A Suvarna, municipal president, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, taluk panchayat president, Nalini Pradeep Rao, district president and state director of Sauharda Society, S K Manjunath, deputy registrar of cooperative societies,Praveen B Nayak, directors of SCDCC Bank, presidents of different cooperative agricultural banks, TAPCMS president Ashhok Kumar Shetty Mairmady and several other dignitaries participated as guests.
Director of SCDC Bank, Deviprasad Shetty Belapu, welcomed. Geneal manager of Badagabettu Society, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, delivered congratulatory address. Kaup Diwakar Shetty and Ashok Kumar Shetty read out the citations. Rajesh K C presented the programme. Sathish Shetty proposed vote of thanks.
Prior to the programme, a grand procession was held from Town Hall in Ajjarkad to Ammanni Ramanna hall. CMC president Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje flagged off the procession.
