Udupi, Nov 9: A day ahead of Tipu Jayanthi, State BJP spokesperson Malavika Avinash lashed against the Karnataka government for going ahead with the celebrations, despite the fact that it will hurt sentiments of many and will be a cause for communal disharmony.
Addressing a press meet on Tuesday at District BJP office, Malavika stressed the fact that Tipu had hurt the Kanara Christian community, and people from Kodagu and other parts of Karnataka, particularly Christians are opposing this celebration due to the violence faced by their ancestors under Tipu’s rule. "He was a killer who dealt out injustice. I think there is no need to celebrate his birth anniversary using government funds," she said.
Speaking about the Parivarthana rally by BJP, she said that its main intention is to make people understand the corruption, lies and failures of the state government.
The Yatra which will reach Udupi on November 12 will highlight the achievements of BJP in the state under the leadership of Yeddyurappa in 2008 and PM Narendra Modi at the Centre since 2014.
She also condemned the Kodagu district administration for denying permission to hold the Yatra meetings in Somavarapete and Virajpete in Madikeri. This is a democratic country and people should be given the freedom to express, she said and accused Siddaramaiah government for being anti-democratic.
The Yatra will enter Dakshina Kannada on November 10 and will reach Udupi on November 12. District BJP President Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said the Yatra will commence from Hejamady, border for Udupi district at around 10.45 am on Sunday, followed by a huge public meeting at Kaup Bus stand around 11.00 am.
On same day, by evening at 3.00 pm a public meeting will be held at Hebri bus stand. Then the Ratha Yathra will arrive to Udupi passing through Hiriadka-Manipal road. An open stage programme at Chittaranjan circle Udupi will be held at 6 pm.
On Monday, November 13 the yatra will move to Kundapur, and a huge public meeting will be held in Nehru Maidan, Kundapur around 11 am. Later, it will be reached Kirimanjeshwar of Byndoor, a meeting will be held in the evening at Sandeepani ground near school.
Then it will move to Uttara Kannada district and then Belagavi.
Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister Ananth Kumar will join in Byndoor programme.
Kuylady Suresh Nayak , Chief Secretary, Yashpal Suvarna, Nayana Ganesh, vice president, Manjunath Kanyady, Katpadi Shankar Poojary and others were present.
