Mangaluru: 13th 'Kalakar Puraskar' bestowed upon Kudmi folk artiste Gopal Gowda

Mangaluru, Nov 9: The 13th ‘Carvalho Ghorannem-Mandd Sobhann Kalakar Puraskar’ was bestowed upon Kudmi folk artiste Gopal Gowda, for his immense contribution in the preservation, promotion and the popularization of Kudmi Konkani folk arts, at Kalaangann here on November 5. President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, R P Naik, presented the award.

The award comprises Rs 25,000 cash, shawl, memento, citation and public honour.

Representative of Carvalho Ghorannem Fr Dr Pratap Naik, Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario and president Louis Pinto were present on the dais. Stany Alvares, co-ordinator of Mandd Sobhann read out the citation. Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the programme.

The award ceremony was followed by the 191st monthly theatre ‘LAR Nite’ – a musical show of selected songs of renowned Konkani poet and composer, Lloyd Austin Rego, Taccode. Eric Ozario, Joyce Ozario, Adolf Jayatilak, Shilpa Cutinha, Muralidhar Kamat, Robin Sequeira, Meera Crasta, Nihal Tauro, Herald Tauro, Senet D’Cunha, Nester Hospet and Joel Attur sang various songs while Rajesh, Rajendra, Roshan Bela, Muralidhar Kamat, Jonam Obol and Reuben Machado backed them with music. Bindas Pernal presented comedy skits and there were dance performances by Nach Sobhann. Blue Angels choir presented a capella version of one of Lloyd’s songs.

Lloyd Rego and Alwyn Danthy compered the show. A houseful audience witnessed the outstanding musical performance.
