Mangaluru, Nov 8: MLA of Mangaluru North Mohiudeen Bava on Wednesday November 8 denied reports in a section of the media that claimed he had been taken to task by Congress state in-charge and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal during the latter's recent visit to the city.
Venugopal had on Monday November 6 inaugurated 'Mane Manege Congress' campaign in Bava's constituency. A section of the media reported that Venugopal was unhappy with Bava.
Addressing a press meet here, Bava said, "Some newspapers are publishing false news about the K C Venugopal's recent visit to my constituency. Some media claimed that Venugopal criticised me at the programme. And particularly, one paper wrote that I took back a cheque which was handed over to a beneficiary in the same programme. This is false. I never took back the cheque nor did Venugopal fire me or any of the other party leaders.
"My sincere request to media persons is, please do not spread false news. It is not good for our district which is known for education," he said.
Moving on to other issues, he said, "Coconut farmers are facing the problem of whiteflies which have destroyed their crops. Because of climate change, these flies migrate to our region through Tamil Nadu. America is their origin point.
After receiving memorandum from our farmers, I contacted central horticulture department and they suggested a solution which is to use repellents against the whitefly. On November 11, the officials from the department will conduct a meeting with farmers at Govinda Das College at 3 pm. I request all farmers to join this meeting. The same day the officials will supply repellents to the farmers.
"Please do not pour chemicals on coconut trees. It will lead to serious health problems," he added.
On the occasion, Bava distributed cheques worth Rs 6,24,571 to beneficiaries.
Surendra Kambali, U P Ibrahim, J Mohammed and others were present.
