Mangaluru, Nov 8: Minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader on Wednesday November 8 said that the previous UPA government was better at unearthing black money and demanded the central government to release white paper on the financial state of the country, even as the Congress observed 'black day' to mark the first anniversary of demonetisation.
Addressing a press meet here, Khader said, "The BJP-led central government has dragged people into a pathetic condition with demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes a year ago. The policies and schemes introduced by the central government are just for politics not for the betterment of the people.
"A year ago when demonetisation of notes was announced, the ruling party had criticised Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for raising voice against the move. Even Mannohan Singh had said that economy would come down drastically. Today people have come to know that Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi were speaking the truth while Modi made fake promises. Modi failed to deliver his promises to unearth black money and curb terror financing," he said.
Giving statistics, he said, "As per a report, in the the year 2012-13, a total of Rs 29,630 crore of black money was unearthed, in 2013-14 Rs 1,01,183 crore of black money was seized, and in 2014-15 the figure stood at Rs 23,108 crore, while in 2015-16 only Rs 20,721 crore of black money was found and in 2016-17, the black money unearthed was Rs 29,211 crore. These statistics shows that there has been decline in unearthing of black money. In fact, more money has been spent to mint new currency notes. The UPA government was much better than the NDA government at unearthing black money," Khader claimed.
"Who is responsible for the country's decline in growth rate? BJP also promised to provide job opportunities to youths, instead they snatched away their jobs, thereby increasing the rate of unemployment in the country. The central government has betrayed the trust of youths by snatching away their jobs. This is the difference between Congress and BJP," he added.
Indira Canteens in Dakshina Kannada

"We will celebrate Tipu Jayanti despite the opposition. We need to remember freedom fighter Tipu Sultan and his contribution," Khader said.
