Mangaluru, Nov 8: In view of the Tipu Jayanti celebrations in the city and BJP's 'Nava Karnataka Parivartana Yatra' to be held the same day, the police have tightened security in the district.
ADGP (law and order) Kamal Panth was in the city on Wednesday November 8 to review the security ahead of these events.
Addressing a press meet, Kamal Panth said, "Tipu Jayanti celebrations and Parivartana Yatra are being held the same day, on November 10, in the district. Hence we have tightened police security to ensure no untoward incidents take place.
"The Mangaluru city police will focus on Tipu Jayanti celebrations while the rural police will focus on the Yatra.
"A total of 2,500 police personnel will be deployed on special duty on November 10. As many as 13 KSRP platoons will arrive to maintain peace in the district," he said, adding that one RAF squad has already arrived.
"Police will list the names of rowdy sheeters and anti-social elements, and a separate police team will monitor their movements," he added.
He also said that peace meetings are being held in various places ahead of the two events.
Panth further said that protests against Tipu Jayanti will not be allowed. "Tipu Jayanti is a government programme. So there is no scope for protest against it. Police commissioner and the district police officers will take necessary steps to issue prohibitory orders if required," he said.
"The superintendent of police (SP) will visit all the six places where the Parivartana Yatra is going to be held. Only after that he will give permission to hold public programme," Panth said.
SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy and police commissioner T Suresh were present.
