Mangaluru, Nov 7: The district BJP on Tuesday November 7 said that several Congress workers and leaders from Dakshina Kannada are set to join the BJP, but refused to divulge their names, stating that people should wait for the 'surprise'.
"A number of Congress leaders of Dakshina Kannada will join BJP during the party's 'Parivartana Yatra' which reach the city later this week. We will not disclose their names now. They will join us constituency-wise. Wait till the Yatra - when the names are announced it will surprise everyone," said BJP district president Sanjeeva Matandoor in a press meet here.
"The 'Parivartana Yatra' led by BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has already started its journey from Bengaluru. On November 8, it will enter Dakshina Kannada through Gundya. But because of Tipu Jayanti, we cannot hold public programmes on November 8 and 9. On November 10 morning, the Yatra will start from Chennakeshava temple in Sullia, move to Puttur and halt at Beltangady. On November 11 morning, the Yatra will start at Bantwal, then Moddbidri and wind up at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru at 5 pm," he said.
"The programme in Mangaluru will include people from three constituencies of the district. Many state and national leaders will participate in this programme. As many as 100 members from every booth will participate.
"During the Yatra, we will expose the failure of the Congress government in the state and at the same time, we will create awareness of the achievements of Narendra Modi-led union government. Our main motto is to build a new Karnataka which is developed in all sectors. The Yatra is not based on the upcoming elections or politically motivated. We are doing our duty for the well-being of the people. Besides this, we will highlight the murders and attacks on BJP activists in the state," he said.
Answering queries on Congress leaders who were going to join BJP, Matandoor said, "Media persons already know their names and have highlighted in their news too."
Umesh Kotian, Brijesh Chowta, Kishore Rai, Satyajit Suratkal and Yogish Bhat were present.
