Udupi, Nov 2: On Wednesday November 1, which happened to be Uthana Dwadashi day as per Hindu calendar, grand celebration of 'Lakshadeepotsava' or festival of lights began at Sri Krishna Math.
As part of the rituals, both the Swamijis of Paryaya Pejawar Math, as well the head of Kaniyoor Math provided Muhurat to signify beginning the festival by keeping a few earthen lamps arranged on rows of wooden stands on cow dung in the car street. Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji, Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, and Swamijis of Krishnapura, Admar and Kaniyoor Maths took part in Tulasi Puja and Ksheerabdhi Pooja procedures performed near Madhwa Sarovar pond of the Math.
Even as thousands of earthen lamps neatly arranged around the car street reflected light, Teppotsava in raft moving on Madhwa Sarovar and car festival at car street were held at night. Large number of people took part in the festivities.
Laksha Deepotsava will continue till November 4 on behalf of the Math. On November 5, Laksha Deepotsava will be held on behalf of Sevadars. 'Mangalotsava' will be held on November 6.
