Bengaluru: Those named in FIRs must be barred from contesting polls - CM

Bengaluru, Nov 2 (DHNS): Politicians against whom even FIRs have been registered, should not be allowed to contest elections, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah, who welcomed the Supreme Court's direction to the Centre to set up a special court to try politicians with criminal background, used this development to target his political rival B S Yeddyurappa of the BJP.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said, "This is a good development. Not just a criminal record, even those who have FIRs registered against them should not be allowed to contest elections. That is the only way to stop politicians such as Yeddyurappa from contesting elections," he said.

Senior Congress leader and MP M Veerappa Moily too said that he welcomed the move. "Not just those with a criminal records, but even those who have been accused of a crime should be barred from contesting. The UPA regime had worked towards bringing about a legislation in this regard," he said, adding that the Congress would build pressure on the present dispensation at the Centre to bring about such an enactment.

Now Siddaramaiah has also started to talk like Modi. Only talk to make the people happy, wont implement anything.

Anyways would be great if this is implemented in India. Should be followed strictly by all the parties.

I totally agree with Stan, Udupi/Dubai. We get what we deserve. If we, the voters, elect corrupt and unworthy persons, we cannot expect good governance. The elected person will continue to loot and then there is no point crying over spilt milk. We are giving them a chance to loot. In stead of that, if we are wise, we should elect only those who we consider good irrespective of which party they come from. Unfortunately, the people, these days do not look at the person. They look at the party and blindly elect persons even if they are corrupt. At least now let us learn from our mistakes and elect only good and worthy people. Corrupt people like Yeddyurappa, Shobha, Shivkumar should not be entertained by the people.

Such laws are not required. Its the voter who decide the fate of politicians. IF THEY reject corrupt , tainted irrespective of which party they belong to the system will get automatically cleaned.Voters and only voters are responsible for the mess we are in today.

In the 16th Loka Sabha there are a record number of criminals elected by the people. The leader himself bear bad record while being a Chief Minister.

Nobody could bar Nalin Kumar Kateel. He will Fire D.K. District and shut down Karnataka within half an hour.

It would have been good for the nation, those named in FIRs barred from contesting polls.
However, many area's are dominated by hardcore criminals, where civilized can not even think of contesting against their wishes.
So many criminals are so powerful, forget about daring to file FIR's against them, won't even whisper against them.
People do speak against wrong doings of sober and civilized, but scared about hard core criminals for repercussions. Sometimes journalists dare to speak against them.
So many elected representatives are puppets working under criminals. We have seen the same in Ram Rahim Saccha Sauda.
