Udupi, Oct 28: The parents of a young woman who died three months ago, allegedly due to medical negligence, are still awaiting her post-mortem report.

Vinitha (27) had been admitted to a private hospital for a minor operation for knee pain on June 8 this year. But within two days, she breathed her last.

Describing the incident in a press meet here on Saturday October 28, A P Bhat, a professor in physics in a college here, and who is also Vinitha's relative, said, "Vinitha Bhat was the only daughter of Vasudev and Malini Bhat of Suralu village near Brahmavar. After their daughter completed high school education, the family shifted to Bengaluru for further studies.

"In 2016, she suffered pain in her knee, for which the family consulted a famous orthopaedic in Bengaluru. Based on scan reports, the doctor told them that there was nothing to worry. But the parents were not convinced. The parents then sought second opinion from orthopaedic Dr Bhaskaranand of Udupi. He conducted tests and told the family that Vinitha needed to undergo an operation without delay, and warned that she might suffer in future if the operation were not performed. He also promised to solve her problem," Prof Bhat said.

"On the night of June 8, Vinitha was admitted to the private hospital in Udupi. She was taken for surgery next day at around 6.30 am, and by 9 am, the surgery was over. However, the parents were not allowed to see her. Vinitha woke up at around 12 noon and was given light food. By 4 pm, she was shifted back to the general ward from the post-operative.

"However, at around 7 pm, Vinitha started vomiting all of a sudden. The nurses informed the duty doctor. Dr Bhasakaranand asked her parents to take Vinitha to another hospital immediately. The parents did so, but they were not given a proper discharge summary by the doctor. In the other hospital, Vinitha was kept for two days, and finally on June 19, she was declared dead. The parents suspect that she was dead even before being shifted to the other hospital, as her body was cold. They were not given any files or reports by the hospital. The doctors advised the parents to cremate her body without delay. Vinitha was then cremated after post-mortem," Prof Bhat said.

"Three months have passed since Vinitha's death, but the post-mortem report is yet to come out. We have been told that the report has been sent to another hospital in Mangaluru. Only once the report is out will the truth be revealed.

"No parent should face such a situation. We have filed a complaint against six persons including doctors and nurses. But the Udupi town police are yet to register the FIR," he said.

"Vinitha's parents suspect that the nurses might have done something wrong or might have given high dosage of injection. But they (parents) are not able to identify the mistake. Vinitha was the only child to her parents and active in social service and sports. Soon after her post-graduation, she got a job in a good company was supposed to join in July.

"The parents have lost their beloved daughter due to the negligence in medical care. The family demands justice and strict action against the doctors and hospital staff responsible for Vinitha's death," Prof Bhat said.

Vinitha's parents Vasudev and Malini Bhat were also present.

Vinitha is a close friend of mine . She underwent the surgery for a minor ligament tear on her knee which took her life. No proper information was disclosed to the grieving parents by the hospital. Strict action must be taken on doctors for such negligence to avoid such cases in the future. May my best friend rest in peace .

Commercial interests make many doctors to commit such mistakes. The matter to be probed and till the probe is complete the doctor should be stripped off his licence. Its necessary to punish the doctors who go for such misdeeds to save their jobs. Shame on such hospitals and doctors. May her soul rest in peace. NO body will be able to understand the pain and agony of her parents. May God guide them .

Why students who study medical field in India are NOT allowed to practice in developed countries ? Sure they have a strong reason to do so .Infact many of those countries want more doctors but they want our students to undergo almost 6 to 8 years of procedures before granting licence.....so much for the standards...still I must say Mera desh mahaan. just to please mine and your ego...

Here the parents made a mistake when the first doctor said no problem with her & went for a second opinion.
If the first had said surgery is needed then they should have asked for second opinion, but it seems they needed the 3rd opinion to rule out some commercial interest of the second doctor.
Medicine has become commercial activity these days & surgeons want more surgeries to survive. Simple treatments which alleviate the pain & help the body heal itself has to be first priority if no fever is present with joint pain. A hot or cold pack & little rest is all she needed & sometimes the cause of these pain is putting undue weight or pressure on those joints that get affected, correcting that itself would have healed her, but doctors here sure has made a mistake & he has to pay for that.

There are many causes for post operative collpase. Pulmory embolism Cardiac disease Sepsis and bleeding can be those causes. You can not blame the Doctor for any of these complications. They are inherant comlications of any surgical procedure. Though I am not supporting the Doctor no DOctor must be punished unless hes really negligent.

Doctor's duty is not only to cut open the body and restitch, but also take care of the patient untill he or she recovers.
After the surgery doctors can not just leave the operation theater to have beer in the local bar. It is his responsibility to see to it that patient recovers.

Its very hard to digest her loss. Complete neglegency from doctor and their staff is the only reason behind her death. Then where is knee injury, where is death. There is nothing link between these two. Its a complete neglegency from hospital. High dosage or something happened inside which is yet to be disclosed. We have
to stop them. They shuold'nt conduct any kind of operation before clearing this case.

Hope family😑 will get the LOYAL JUSTICE and doctors n staff will be punished.

When their daughter died the doctors asked to cremate immediately that time the parents should have thought there was a messup in medication. They could have asked for postmortem in another hospital. They believed the doctors till the cremation of their daughter's body. Now there is lot of changes in medical records and postmortem reports.
Educated parents do like this and cremated asap listening to the doctors after so many negligence till her death still the parents went on cremate at least after death they could have complained.

When we follow procedures we perform our tasks correctly. Procedures are as simple as washing hand before eating. When we fail to follow procedures we end up with disaster and loss of precious lives. Very painful situation for the parents. We need to slowdown a bit and think in quietness why such things are happening. We can't think properly in the nose of speed.

It is a shocking fact that these days fake doctors percentage is increasing........... for them money is first, human life has no value. Unnecessary surgery is conducted and medicine is given purely for their financial benefit. My advice is try to avoid doctors and hospitals unless it is very necessary and live long!.

Before going to surgery one need to do self-assessment.
What if surgery not conducted? How long can you survive?
The risk to life after surgery is 100%. So you need to sign one form before surgery.

Also one needs to go to some unknown doctor for consultation and surgery. Because if the doctor doesn't know anything about you, most likely to give fair treatment and discharge his duties honestly...

O God.what a situation ,daughter was taken to a simple knee operation, later dies wihtin two days.No answer,no right diagnose,no right explanation from any doctors.Everything is hidden behind .For me a big question is why did the doctor told them to creminate the body fast.In that lies the truth.were they afraid that parents might try a second post martum?Usually a knie operation should not lead to death never, unless something went wrong during op.or later wrong medicine was given or a allergy developed to a antibiotica?i FIND DOCTORS SHOULD TELL the truth to parents. However Its paining to suffer due to loss of only child second not knowing the truth.Heartfelt sympathy to the parents. Why should the postmartum report take three months?Would it ever come?If comes would it be really truth or something created ?Lets hope to hear only the truth.(I hardly believe in it)May the soul of the deceased may rest in peace.Feel so sorry for the family.

The parents should have taken third opinion since the opinion of first doctor was normal & the second doctor was just the opposite. Also the second doctor should have explained to the parents as to what had happened before admitting her to the hospital for surgery.

This is very sad news to all. One life is gone. How it went wrong? Why there were no quality checks about the prescription , medical procedures , Pre and post checks , were the nurse , doctors and medical staffs competent for the operation ? Was the operation really essential ? Was the right medicine given to the patient ? Was the medicine valid from expiration date? Why are the reports not maintained well and disclosed right information to the patient's family? Were there cameras in the theatre ? What kind of operations were done? And many more questions to be asked and solved.
Medical profession is expected to be high in quality .
May her soul rest in peace.

Before we blame doctors lets wait for the proper postmortem report. Only after the postmortem report we can ascertain the cause of death and come to a conclusion regarding any negligence in this case. Let there be a proper inquiry before blaming anyone. If guilty the Doctor must be punished and if innocent he must be left alone
