Mysuru, Oct 24: A former soldier, who had deceived three of his wives, was stopped at the fourth by his first wife. The man, about whom the youngsters would be jealous of for his ability to trap ladies one after the other, ran out of luck at his latest effort.
Shivananju from Lakkikuppe village in K R Nagar taluk in the district had married thrice in the past. On Monday October 23, he had planned to marry the fouth one at Yoganarasimha temple, Vijayanagar here. But his first wife, Varalakshmi, who had been reportedly cheated by the man, visited the venue of the marriage at the last minute in the company of her father, Srinivas, narrated her tale of woes to the family of the bride and stopped the marriage.
Varalakshmi is fighting a legal battle with her estranged husband. The other two wives have distanced themselves from Shivananju without taking pains to pursue court cases against him. Varalakshmi displayed to the people and the media photos of Shivananju marrying two others, Shweta and Asharani, in the past.

Varalakshmi said that she married Shivananju on May 10, 2007, when he was still in active service. Shivananju left his pregnant wife at her parental home for delivery and came back only after two years. As conciliatory talks failed to address issues, Varalakhmi filed dowry harassment and alimony case against her husband in 2009.
By the time a case was registered, Shivananju married Shweta from Saligrama but soon separated from her. He then married Asharani but this marriage too did not last for long. He then convinced a milk vendor from Gukulam in the city to give his daughter in marriage. He had informed his would-be bride that he had earlier married a lady and that he had applied for divorce which would be sanctioned shortly.
Varalakshmi said that she stopped this marriage in the interests of the girls like her who are taken for a ride by men like Shivananju.
